Spinal Injuries Scotland is looking for a Peer Support Advisor to join our team based in the Queen Elizabeth National Spinal Injuries Unit, Glasgow, to support patients, their families, and friends to help come to terms with a spinal cord injury.

You will build and maintain professional relationships with patients, families, NHS staff and partner organisations, delivering person-centred peer support and provide insight into the process of recovery through sharing of experience in a positive way.

This will be a permanent appointment to a varied role where you will be a key member of a small team supported by a backroom office of professionals. By joining Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland (CHSS) as a Regional Lead Stroke Nurse you can be the difference between people just surviving and really living.

You will be part of Scotland’s leading health charity providing support to people with chest, heart and stroke conditions and Long Covid to live life to the full again. Our Community Healthcare Support Service provides access to a range

of supported self management and community recovery services to support people across Scotland to manage their health as well as possible and adjust to life after a diagnosis of a chest or heart condition or after a stroke. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the establishment of a new CHSS Stroke Nurse Service within NHS Borders whilst providing strategic, operational and clinical leadership to our established Stroke Nurse Service in NHS Lothian. The postholder will play a key role in shaping and developing services, leading Stroke Nurse teams, driving quality improvement, strengthening partnerships with NHS stakeholders and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, person-centred support for people affected by stroke and TIA. This role offers the opportunity to influence stroke services across two health board areas and contribute to the delivery of CHSS's No Life Half Lived #2 strategy.

The post is split across both areas, with approximately 2 days per week dedicated to Borders and 3 days per week to Lothian. The role is primarily home-based, with occasional travel across both health board areas and other locations as required to meet service and organisational needs.

You should be able to provide direct support to individuals in homes and communities to improve their mental health and wellbeing. Support is focused on enabling people to build on their existing skills or develop new skills, increase their self-esteem and confidence, which in turn will encourage involvement and promote independence. This is achieved by using interpersonal and motivational skills to help an individual explore options, the possible outcomes/ consequences and make an informed choice based on this.

What we are looking for

You will be able to demonstrate good communication skills and a mature attitude together with adaptability and enthusiasm. Knowledge and experience in supporting people with mental health problems is desirable but not essential as is experience working with people who have had long term hospital admissions. This role involves shift working, including evening’s weekends and sleepovers and participating in an on Call Rota.

We support all genders, age 13+ across East and North Ayrshire. About the role

We seek people to support the existing board and staff team in evolving the charity further. Having recently reviewed the skillset of the existing board, we especially welcome people with experience of Digital, IT systems and Finance.

Board meetings are held online quarterly lasting 2.5hs/meeting and some additional time is required outside meeting times to read board papers, where invited, to attend in-person events or training, or where there is voluntary participation in additional board sub group activities. About you

The Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Co-ordinator to lead and develop our footcare initiative across the Forth Valley area. Braveheart’s Top Toes service is already operating in Falkirk District and your role will be to drive forward the growth of the social enterprise, while managing the high quality of the footcare service. Joining the Braveheart team at this exciting time in the organisation’s development offers the successful candidate the opportunity to make a tangible difference to the lives of hundreds of people in the Forth Valley communities. Key challenges of the role will include implementing a new online payment system, recruiting and developing volunteer teams and promoting the footcare service through partnership development and marketing activities.

Our footcare clinics are delivered by volunteers. The Co-ordinator role includes organising regular training including with the NHS podiatry team, mentoring and supporting volunteers, promoting good communication and holding regular volunteer team meetings.

The post is initially funded by Clackmannanshire and Stirling Health and Social Care Partnership for up to 2 years, however, the aim of the socially enterprising project is that it will become self-sustaining through the income raised by the service.

About You

We are looking for someone who is passionate about health promotion and community engagement with strong organisational and interpersonal skills. Familiarity with community health networks and knowledge of the local area will be an advantage.
