If you are interested in applying for this role, please submit a CV and a cover letter (max 2 pages) which demonstrates your reason for applying and a summary of how you can meet the key skills listed in the job description.

We are the UK’s independent medical regulator, working to protect, promote and maintain the health and safety of the public by ensuring proper standards in the practice of medicine by doctors. We do this to protect patient safety and support medical education and practice across the UK, by working with doctors, employers, educators, patients and other key stakeholders in the UK's healthcare systems.

The Policy and External Affairs Officer will work in our Scotland team based in Edinburgh. You’ll support our external affairs and policy work, working closely with the Policy and External Affairs Manager and colleagues across the Strategic Communications and Engagement Directorate.

You’ll be responsible for promoting our work with key stakeholder groups, through drafting consultation responses, policy papers and briefings and ensuring that other GMC colleagues are aware of political, policy and legislative developments in Scotland that have the potential to impact on our work.

Expertise and insight in policy and external affairs is essential, along with any experience working with the Scottish Government, the Scottish Parliament, third sector or a healthcare organisation.

In return, you’ll benefit from being part of an organisation that is genuinely committed to its people. Within our friendly environment, you will have access to a range of learning and development opportunities designed to support your ongoing progression. We offer an attractive salary and benefits package.

The GMC is happy to support a range of flexible working options. Flexible working requests will be considered in line with the policy.

The GMC values diversity and has made a public commitment to processes and procedures that are fair, objective, transparent and free from discrimination.

We strongly believe that diversity of background and experience contributes to a broader collective perspective that will consistently lead to us being a better regulator. We are working hard to increase the diversity of our staff, and also the diversity of those we work with wherever we can and we would actively encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds to apply.
