Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland (CHSS) is a Scottish health charity, caring for and supporting people after stroke, or diagnosis of a chest or heart condition. We offer vital advice and information to people and their families, delivering support services in the community. We believe everyone has the right to live life to the full, so we are committed to influencing public policy to ensure those affected get the services they so badly need. Our ambition is to be Scotland’s leading organisation for community driven support for people with these health conditions.

You will be part of Scotland’s leading charity providing support to people with chest, heart and stroke conditions to live life to the full again. The Advice Line service is a free and confidential helpline that supports people living with our conditions to ensure that no life is half lived.

The Advice Line Know your Rights Coordinator will develop a team of volunteers who will provide a telephone support service to people affected by chest, heart and stroke, including Long Covid, who want to improve their understanding of their rights living with a long-term condition. This role is home based but occasional travel across Scotland will be required.

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual with good communication skills and experience with a special interest in the impact of physical health on emotional/physical wellbeing and/or experience working in a similar advocacy role. Experience of recruiting and line managing volunteers is desirable.

In support of Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland’s No Life Half Lived #2 Strategy, the Advice Line has recently expanded to include a new structure and variety of skill sets to enable a sustainable service that aligns to CHSS’s future vision and strategy. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the expansion of the Advice Line and to be part of a friendly team.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Sunday Assistant Manager for our shop in Melrose. To work every Sunday (and may need to flexi up for holiday cover during the week throughout the year). You’d be responsible for leading a team to engage with the community to deliver the set Key Performance Indicators. You will have the autonomy to be innovative in achieving your targets.

Our Community Healthcare Support services form a nationwide network of local support groups, nurses, volunteers and one-to-one support teams helping families adjust to life with a heart or lung condition or after a stroke.

We are looking for a Peer and Involvement Coordinator to join our amazing Peer, Participation and Engagement team. The Peer and Involvement Coordinators support and build positive relationships with and between our partnered Peer Support Groups. You will provide advice and guidance to the Peer Support Groups in your coordinator area, connecting them with relevant services, activities and networks locally. You will manage CHSS Peer Volunteers responsible for clusters of Peer Support Groups in your geographic area.

We are looking for someone with drive and creativity to support the expansion of the Peer Support network in pursuance of our strategic aim to expand our Peer Support community from 3 thousand to 10 thousand members by 2028. You will work with Peer, Participation and Engagement colleagues to support the CHSS Participation and Involvement Framework by involving Peer Group members in our participation and engagement activity.

We are looking for someone with a positive attitude towards people with disabilities and long-term conditions; an understanding of the challenges faced by people with chest, heart, stroke and long covid conditions.

We are looking for a Community Support Coordinator to join our amazing team in the West area. This role is focused on making sure that people affected by chest, heart and stroke conditions get the help they need and get back to doing the things that matter to them.

Through our Community Support Services, you will support people to have the confidence and tools to self-manage their health condition and live as independently as possible. You’ll also help people get back to doing the things that are important to them – from simple things like walking to their local shop following a stroke, to returning to a sky-high hobby of gliding!

You’ll be directly involved in supporting people with chest, heart and stroke conditions through both one-to-one and group services in both community and hospital settings. You’ll work with the rest of the Community Support Services team in Glasgow, and manage a team of incredible volunteers, to make a real difference to the lives of people with our conditions.

Candidates don’t need to have medical knowledge as training is provided on our health conditions. We are looking for someone with a positive attitude towards people with disabilities and long-term conditions; an understanding of the challenges faced by people with chest, heart and stroke conditions including Long Covid; an understanding of community service provision; the ability to recruit, manage and motivate a team of volunteers; and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
