We are seeking up to two individuals with experience in financial management, project management/planning roles, or accountancy to support the effective governance of the Care and Repair Edinburgh (CRE) Board of Trustees and to act as a Trustee and Non-Executive Director of CRE.

INTRODUCTION

CRE is a voluntary organisation helping those over 60 years of age and/or anyone with a disability, to improve and repair their properties to enable them to live as independently and as safely as possible. CRE is a charity in its 40th Year, and limited company, governed by a Board of Directors. The CRE team are based at Causewayside House, 160 Causewayside, Edinburgh. The team consists of: Director, Operations Manager, Senior Administrator/Volunteer Coordinator, 3 Administrators, Joiner, Engineer, Electrician and a Handyperson. There are also approximately 20 volunteers who undertake small DIY jobs.

CRE offer the following services to anyone aged 60+ or anyone with a disability, who live in the City of Edinburgh Council tax area.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• To ensure that the organisation complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
• To contribute actively to the work of CRE. Trustees are responsible for shaping and endorsing the strategic direction, setting overall policy, evaluating organisational performance and supporting the staff team to achieve their agreed goals and objectives.
• To safeguard the name, aims and the values of the organisation.
• To ensure that CRE takes steps to protect and manage the property of the charity including proper investment of charity funds.
• It is anticipated that the duties of Trustees are likely to take about 1 day per month and applicants must be able to accommodate this. The Board currently meets 4 times a year in Edinburgh: February, May, August and November.

These posts are not remunerated but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.

Trustees should not have any significant interest in any organisation that conflicts directly with the goals of CRE and all potential conflicts of interest should be declared, including at each Board meeting.

Who we are

Alzheimer Scotland is Scotland’s national dementia charity. Our aim is to make sure nobody faces dementia alone. We provide support and information to people with dementia, their carers and families, we campaign for the rights of people with dementia and fund vital dementia research.

What you’ll do

You will be responsible for supporting people living with dementia to achieve good outcomes using a range of therapeutic interventions, resources and activities as appropriate. Working as part of the Registered and Commissioned Services/Community Connections team you will have responsibility for ensuring that services are of the highest quality and meet Alzheimer Scotland’s vision for unique therapeutic, highly person-centred support.

You will work with the wider team and Day Services Manager to ensure safe practice and delivery of high-quality, person-centred, therapeutic Registered and Commissioned Services/Community Connections, ensuring practice complies with Alzheimer Scotland’s policies. You will contribute to evidencing, reviewing and continually improving the quality of the services and will participate in internal audit and Care Inspectorate inspections.

You may operate within a building-based Day Care or as part of a Community Connection team delivering Community Groups and Outreach services across an allocated area. At times, this will involve working without supervision in the absence of the Day Services Manager.

You will work with the wider team to evidence that services meet Alzheimer Scotland’s Quality Guarantees, Scotland’s Health and Social Care standards and other quality frameworks including those of the Care Inspectorate where relevant. This includes ensuring that the activities and support offered meet the identified personal outcomes of those attending the services.

What you’ll have

The successful candidate will have a good understanding and/or experience of working with or supporting people living with dementia and their families. This will include an understanding of the benefit of high quality, evidence based therapeutic activity, ongoing evaluation, quality assurance and continuous improvement.

Knowledge and understanding of the Health and Social Care Standards and SSSC codes of practice and the Care Inspectorate and their role in registered services.

Understanding and knowledge of dementia, mild cognitive impairment and Brain Health and experience of working with or supporting people living with dementia and their families.

This position requires applicants to be registered with Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC). Successful candidates are expected to hold a professional qualification in health, social work or related field equivalent to SCQF Level 6 (SVQ 2).

Full driving license and access to a vehicle during working time is essential for this post.

We're looking for a passionate community activity worker with experience of working with the over-55s, understanding of the challenges this group faces, and the drive to provide services that make a difference.

Hibernian Community Foundation is the charitable arm of Hibernian Football Club. We use the power of football to improve lives. Our strategic priority is to improve the physical and mental health of people from low-income households. We do this by providing community meals (1,000 each month), organising social, wellbeing and fitness activities from our Community Hub (450 people every month), and organising football sessions for people of all ages and abilities (700 participating weekly).

We are a team of 15, working with 40 sessional staff and 150 volunteers, based in an office and a dedicated Community Hub within Easter Road Stadium. We raise funds for our programmes from grant makers, companies, and by organising fundraising events and appeals. We also operate as a social enterprise, generating income from pay-to-play football sessions to give everyone in the community the opportunity to play.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Design, promote and deliver wellbeing and physical health events and activities for over 55s, targeting those
• Build a network of over 55s and older people’s groups, charities and agencies.
• Involve older people in all aspects of the design and delivery of events and activities, from concept to evaluation.
• Set up and coordinate activities with the aim of maximising use of HCF’s Community Hub
• Recruit volunteers to assist and, if appropriate, lead on delivery; manage a pool of volunteers.
• Assist older people in the community to understand the services available in the local community and how these can be accessed.
• Actively promote the activities and sessions on offer with Hibernian Community Foundation to people in the surrounding area.
• Contribute to the ongoing monitoring information, evaluation and development of the programme, designing appropriate methods to capture and record information.

• Experience of report writing, budgeting and making funding applications. We use Office 365 and would expect you to be comfortable using Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams.

Working pattern

Three days/week, days to be agreed with the successful candidate and to include Mondays. Occasional flexibility to work on other days to support specific events, including some out-of-hours working, will be required.
