The successful applicants will be responsible for delivery of a support service within an Accident & Emergency Department Hospital setting.

The service offers a care model involving early intervention with individuals who present with Addictions issues by supporting and directing them into services who can meet their needs.

Motivating patients, building and strengthening recovery, supporting engagement and compliance with treatment services, and assisting with any identified health and social needs, in particular those who may be at risk of homelessness and loss of tenancy is the focus of this approach.

Successful candidates will have experience of working in a caring vocation and hold a relevant qualification. They will have good organisation, communication, and IT skills, and can demonstrate an ability to work using their own initiative.

We are pleased to be recruiting for this exciting new position of Communications Worker to support our communication and information activity on a day-to-day basis.

About the role

This post offers key support to SDF’s communications activities as part of a small, dedicated communication team.

The post involves the production of regular communications to SDF members and other stakeholders including a mailing list of almost 4000 contacts. The role will be responsible for regular posting and engagement with social media; updating SDF’s online presence via websites; the production of video and still photography resources; support in marketing and delivering events including a programme of national conferences and webinars. The post also supports the production of SDF resources, recruitment of volunteers, trainee and permanent staff. The postholder will contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of the effectiveness of SDF’s media and communication activity.

You will engage with a range of stakeholders including people who develop policy; people who design, commission, manage and deliver services for people who use drugs as well as people with lived and living experience of a drug problem. It also involves contributing to the design and production of communications and resources for this variety of audiences.

The role will include the development and editing of video and still image resources and support to online events. As part of a team, you will be supported to develop skills in these areas but should have enthusiasm and a demonstrable aptitude for this work.

The successful candidate who will be working in a team and will be responsible for delivering a service within a hospital setting.

The service will provide additional specialist support for engaging with individuals at risk of or presenting as homeless. The service will provide an assertive response to homelessness and crisis that may put a service users tenancy or safety at risk.

The aim of the service is to reduce homelessness presentations due to unmet needs of individuals with problematic substance misuse. To support and address issues pivotal in causing homelessness i.e. support access to mental health services, support for alcohol use and engaging with drug services etc.

The Dedicated Addictions Worker will also provide external training, giving an overview of the complexities of working with people with addictions, to local authority Housing Officers as well as non-housing staff and services.

The successful candidate will have experience of working within a caring environment, as well as within the addictions and housing sector. They will hold a relevant qualification in respect of this and can present and deliver training on Alcohol and other substances. They will have excellent organisation, communication and I.T. skills, and can demonstrate the ability to work on their own initiative.

Purpose of Role:

The Talk About Trust is a charity with 15 years’ experience of providing alcohol and substance education and awareness in different ways, to young people age 11–25, and providing engaging and evidence-based resources and training for teachers, charity and youth workers supporting young people. We work across Scotland with schools, youth charities, youth groups, foster agencies providing holistic support to young people of all abilities.

The project manager will help fulfil the Talk About Trust’s remit of preventing and reducing alcohol and drug related harm.

Main Responsibilities:

· Support life coaches, partner charity professionals and those supporting young adults on a day-to-day basis with training, resources, email and phone support. Host implementation and guidance workshops for the above

· To contact, research, meet and network with suitable settings and relevant networks across Scotland

· Provide a monthly report of all activities to the charity and its trustees Liaise with the CEO and Trustees’ and other AET staff as required. Attend remote monthly management meetings and briefings.

· Monitor, record and evaluate the Scottish 16 – 25 project with 5 partner charities on a quarterly basis,

Ensure professionals attending training and workshops complete evaluation forms

· Display a full understanding and compliance with data privacy, safeguarding and GDPR in all instances. Enhanced DBS is required.

The position is home based, but you must be willing to travel throughout Scotland

You are expected to:

- Be confident using IT packages including Microsoft TEAMS, Zoom, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

- Be confident in making presentations to professionals and running interactive workshops on alcohol, cannabis, vaping and other substances following full training

- Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills

- Have a background of teaching/health promotion or working with vulnerable young people and or local authorities

- To work in accordance with the organisation’s policies and procedures.
