Deaf Action is a deaf-led charity, supporting and celebrating deaf people. We were established in 1835 and work with deaf people across Scotland and the South of England. Our work is geared towards empowering all deaf people to achieve their potential and fully participate in society, with equality of rights, access and opportunity.

About you

We have an exciting opportunity for a creative and strategic thinker to join our team as Marketing Executive. You will be someone with marketing, communications and social media experience who can help raise the profile of the Deaf Action brand and engage with diverse audiences.

You should be able to think creatively, work both independently and as part of a team, and demonstrate excellent communication, interpersonal and digital skills. We're looking for someone with experience of contributing towards the success of marketing campaigns, and with a passion for empowering people from marginalised communities.

As part of our commitment to inclusion, you need to be willing to learn British Sign Language as part of this role (bonus if you already know sign language).

About the role

This role is part of the development team, supporting our marketing efforts across our services and fundraising, online and offline. The marketing team works with people across the whole organisation, so you know your work will have an impact. We’re also responsible for Deaf Action’s brand, website, social media and all communications.

This is an exciting time for Deaf Action, as we have recently restructured our team and are about to embark on a company-wide rebrand, of which you’ll play a vital role in the roll-out.

This role reports to the Marketing Manager.

Key responsibilities

  • Supporting the implementation of the marketing strategy and rebrand process
  • Supporting the implementation of marketing plans across all services
  • Assisting with day-to-day marketing tasks
  • Managing Deaf Action’s social media accounts, including creating and scheduling social media posts
  • Maintaining and managing content calendars
  • Responding to comments, engaging in discussions and social listening on all platforms
  • Developing social insights and keep teams informed of new opportunities
  • Maintaining and updating the Deaf Action website with keyword-rich copy to maximise SEO
  • Monitoring analytics to measure and improve digital marketing activities
  • Contributing to Deaf Action’s internal communications plan, including content creation for newsletters and staff intranet

Additional responsibilities:

  • Undertaking ad hoc tasks that may be requested from time to time that are consistent with the nature and scope of this post
  • Helping to build and maintain paid marketing campaigns

Person specification (essential):

  • Degree or professional qualification in marketing, communications, or PR
  • Experience of supporting the delivery of multi-channel marketing campaigns
  • Competent in digital marketing, social media, and analytics
  • Excellent written and communication skills, with the ability to write engaging copy
  • Experience of writing SEO keyword-rich text
  • Ability to work proactively, prioritise work and meet deadlines
  • Ability to develop good working relationships internally and externally
  • Working knowledge of WordPress, Canva and Microsoft Office packages
  • Knowledge of market research techniques
  • Aptitude for learning British Sign Language

Person specification (desirable):

  • Experience of working in the charitable sector
  • Knowledge or awareness of deaf issues and culture
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics
