Role

Victim Support Scotland is looking to recruit a new Policy & Research Officer into the organisation.

We are looking for a policy expert who is skilled at handling sensitive and complex information, as well as having the gravitas to successfully connect with senior stakeholders within the justice sector.

You will have experience working in a policy related environment/role and will be able to demonstrate how you can bring about sustained and purposeful change as a direct result of policy influencing.

We are ideally looking for someone who has expertise in, and is passionate about, understanding the detail of policy and legislation as it relates to victims, witnesses and families.

A key part of the role will be analysing complicated documents and policy developments and assessing how these relate to the wider work of Victim Support Scotland.

The successful candidate will handle relationships with multiple stakeholders – including senior civil servants, Ministers and third sectors leaders – and will represent Victim Support Scotland at a number of sector wide forums, meetings and events.

You will also be the driving force behind the development of the Victims Organisations Collaboration Forum Scotland (VOFCS), a group of third sector organisations that are collectively advocating for change within the justice system on behalf of victims and survivors.

As the organisation’s ‘go-to’ person on everything policy related, you will be expected to monitor and evaluate policy developments on a daily basis, updating our workforce of staff and volunteers as these relate to our mission and vision.

Working closely with the Head of Communications & External Affairs, as well as the wider management team within VSS, you will deliver on our proactive policy influencing plans and campaigns which put the rights and needs of victims, witnesses and families at the centre.

This is clearly an exciting and demanding role and would be suited to someone who is efficient at managing their own workload, including competing priorities and deadlines.

You would be joining a small but ambitious and forward-thinking team. We are therefore looking for someone who can act autonomously, as well as part of a wider department, showing flexibility and a positive attitude to projects and tasks.

Now is the time to join Victim Support Scotland as we work towards the ambitions of our 5-year plan: Empowering people affected by crime: VSS Strategy 2021-2026.

This post will be subject to a satisfactory PVG check, references and proof that you have the right to work in the UK.
