Why apply for this role?
As a Practice and Policy Advisor at CHS, no two days will be the same. You will work closely with staff and volunteers to deliver consistent, high-quality practice advice and guidance relating to children’s hearings. This is an exciting opportunity to change and improve children’s hearings as you will be joining CHS at a key time in the Redesign of the Children’s Hearings System and will help us prepare to welcome 16 and 17 year olds into the system next year. Key Responsibilities
• Support the Practice and Policy Lead in developing practice information for Panel Members in response to changes in legislation or policy.
• Respond quickly and effectively to requests for practice and policy advice from CHS volunteers.
• Co-ordinate the work of a Bank of Independent Report Writers including recruitment, commissioning, quality assurance and ongoing support and development.
• Work closely with the Children’s Hearings Scotland Learning Academy to ensure that all national training is developed in accordance with legislation, practice information and policy.
• Support the Practice and Policy Lead to work in partnership with other stakeholders on policies to improve practice in the Children’s Hearings System leading to better outcomes for children and young people.
Our Practice and Policy Team
Our practice and policy team comprises of two Practice and Policy Advisors, a Practice and Policy Lead and the Head of Practice and Policy. The role of the team is to provide high-quality advice and guidance to our 3,000 strong volunteer community. We work across all departments and with our external partners to drive change to improve hearings for children and young people.
Life at CHS
Our 2,500 volunteer Panel Members take part in children’s hearings in their local areas, making decisions with and for infants, children and young people. Our organisation also supports a network of 22 Area Support Teams made up of 400 volunteers who support Panel Members in their local communities.
