About the Role:

These Support Worker roles at our Kilmarnock Titchfield Service involve working on a rota covering set day and back shifts weekly, including select weekend work. Both roles are part time, involving 21 and 28 hours of work per week respectively, and are based at a service supporting individuals who have completed rehab and are in recovery. Recovery support can include life skills training, social and community engagement and goal-setting/personal development.

Main Responsibilities:

As a Support Worker, you’ll work as part of a team in providing safe, secure, supported accommodation for the people who use our services. You’ll do this by providing practical and emotional support and encouraging them to achieve their own personal outcomes in all aspects of their daily lives. The Support Worker will:

  • work as part of a team providing safe, secure, supported accommodation for homeless people.

We are recruiting a Senior Support Worker for Willowgate, a new programme based in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire. The programme provides short term supported accommodation for people at risk of homelessness and will comprise of 15 self-contained units suitable for individuals, families and couples.

The Senior Support Worker will work closely with people accessing the programme, South Lanarkshire Council and the wider community to help people achieve their goals and move on to more settled accommodation. You will also lead programme development and a team of Support Workers, as well as create opportunities for the people we support to provide feedback and contribute to the development of the programme.

This is a really exciting opportunity for a new team to make their mark, help shape the programme and provide meaningful support to people facing homelessness.

Main duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Develop positive and supportive relationships with your staff team
  • Support the Registered Manager with robust rota planning and staffing cover to ensure all working shifts are covered
  • Ensure staff are using support plans to record and assess the progress of the people we support
  • Ensure person centred planning and unconditional positive regard is undertaken by staff
  • Regularly audit the files of the people we support
  • Ensure the needs of the people we support are being met by the staff

Founded in 1996, Railway Children has dedicated over a quarter of a century to developing outstanding practice and services for street connected children. With projects in the UK, India and Tanzania, we aim to reach these children as soon as they are in danger and intervene before an abuser can. As we embark on our new strategy to 2030, we have ambitious plans to ensure no child is left behind, wherever we work.

The role

We are looking for a Youth Outreach Practitioner for our Glasgow team and are keen to receive applications from those living in and around the City of Glasgow. You’ll be part of a dynamic team delivering Railway Children’s programme in the UK, in partnership with British Transport Police (BTP).

As a Youth Outreach Practitioner, you’ll play a key role in keeping children safe from harm by engaging in patrols to identify and safeguard young people (aged 10-17) at risk of criminal and sexual exploitation, county lines, missing from home, homelessness or family breakdown.

You will also work closely with our Youth Practitioner, supporting a number of young people who have been identified or referred for 1-1 direct support.

Both aspects of the role will involve working directly with young people and their families to reduce risks, as well as building strong relationships other social care, Police, third sector agencies and local services in the area.

Your base would be near to Glasgow Central Station with regular travel between the station and working in the boroughs of North Lanarkshire, South Lanarkshire, Glasgow and Renfrewshire. This role involves some evenings and weekend hours.

About you

You will have experience of successfully engaging and supporting young people and families as well as working in an outreach or similar setting, in a creative and engaging way with young people with a range of needs and vulnerabilities.

A relevant qualification in an appropriate discipline in working with children and families, community or youth work or equivalent experience is desirable. Alongside this relevant training in safeguarding and/or issues relevant to vulnerable young people and families is essential.

You will need to have experience of providing front line support to safeguard some of the most vulnerable young people in the UK.

Experience of developing productive relationships/partnerships with a variety of organisations such as 3rd sector group, local services and statutory services such a social care to support the needs of vulnerable young people and families is a must.

You will spend time in services and with staff teams that are supporting individuals with behavioural challenges and carry out behavioural assessments with the aim of improving quality of life. You will develop comprehensive, person-centred, Behaviour Support Plans and support the skill development of staff and management.

Working closely with the Regional PBS Manager you will plan, implement and evaluate behavioural interventions for individuals who present with behavioural challenges but also work closely with operational staff at all levels.

You will be confident in delivering presentations using a range of formats including PowerPoint, and will help develop learning materials for staff teams, delivering service specific training throughout our services.

You will assist in monitoring and reviewing progress, measuring against original objectives for behavioural input, including producing evaluation reports with graphic data.

There is 1 full time post available (35 hours per week), though your base is in Central/East there is still the requirement to be flexible to travel and work away from your original base across the Centra/East of Scotland, which can include overnight stays when required. Travel and subsistence payments will be made.

Previous experience of working with people with learning disabilities and complex needs, the ability to work as part of a team or on your own initiative, the ability to plan, prioritise and manage your own workload and the ability to work closely with a range of staff are required for this role. As part of a small team, you will ensure that the highest level of physical and emotional care is provided to the children and young people. Experience in this type of work is preferred however we will consider all applications. Our service is open Thursday afternoons to Monday mornings. We currently support two individuals with disabilities to live independently in their own bright, fully adapted home in Currie, Edinburgh. Each person has their own bedroom, with comfortable shared living and bathroom spaces.

In addition, we support two to three individuals each year through short‑break stays in our Edinburgh flats, located in Wester Hailes and on Fords Road. These breaks provide valuable respite for families from the demands of daily caring. This support is offered on a regular basis throughout the year and is available to individuals who also access our day support services.
