Job purpose

The Member Engagement Officer is responsible for increasing membership of the Network, encouraging member engagement with network activities and identifying and addressing individual member’s support needs through awareness raising activities, outreach and signposting.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and proactive Welfare and Compliance Manager to lead the delivery of safe, inclusive environments across athletics in Scotland. Reporting to the Head of Coaching and Welfare, you will act as the organisation’s primary contact for safeguarding, welfare and compliance matters. Working in close collaboration with partners such as Disclosure Scotland, Children First and UK Athletics you will oversee the ongoing development and implementation of modern and effective safeguarding and welfare practices across the organisation and wider sport.

You will be responsible for the provision of ongoing guidance, support and training for the network of Club Welfare Officers, contributing to the development of policies and procedures and ensuring compliance with the relevant legislation and standards.

This new role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact, embedding a proactive culture of safeguarding and welfare which ensures that every individual has a safe and positive experience in athletics.

Staff

scottishathletics employs 33 members of staff and 23 Club Together Officers.

Place of Work

Hybrid working. The scottishathletics office is based at Laurie Liddell Clubhouse, 42 Peffermill Road, Edinburgh, EH16 5LL. scottishathletics also has an office within the Emirates Arena, 1000 London Road, Glasgow, G40 3HG.

Salary

The starting salary offered for the post will be £33,000. Annual pay awards will be made in accordance with the salary review procedures agreed by the scottishathletics Board of Directors.

Hours of work

The person appointed will be expected to work for 37 hours per-week. Due to the nature of the post, there may be occasions where there is a requirement to work in the evening and at weekends. Pension

scottishathletics operates a qualifying group pension scheme for auto-enrolment purposes and will match the successful candidates’ contribution up to a maximum of 6% of salary, including the legal minimum contributions required.

Annual Leave and Public Holidays

The annual leave entitlement for this post is 25 days (pro rata), increasing to 30 days after five years’ service. In addition, the public holiday entitlement is 10.5 days (pro rata).

Travel and Subsistence

The post holder may occasionally be required to travel to meetings within Scotland and occasionally in the UK. Travel and subsistence will be reimbursed at scottishathletics’ current rates.

Probationary Period

All new members of staff will serve a six-month probationary period before their appointment is confirmed.

Notice

  • Represent patient perspectives at relevant internal and external groups, workshops and events when required.

Ark Subsidiary Board

Legal Policy Manager (Together Partnership)

About the role

The Legal Policy Manager plays a key role in empowering the children’s sector to use the law to drive systemic change and ensure children experience their rights in practice.

This role is employed by Clan Childlaw and is central to delivery of a jointly funded partnership project between Clan Childlaw and Together (Scottish Alliance for Children’s Rights), supported by the Human Rights Fund. The post holder will work closely across both organisations to deliver shared objectives.

Clan Childlaw is a leader in child-centred strategic litigation that drives systemic change, while Together represents over 600 organisations working to promote and protect children’s rights in Scotland.

The post holder will support strategic legal interventions, including the use of the UNCRC, to drive change for children and young people in Scotland.

The project aims to empower and enable Scotland’s children’s sector to use the law to advance children’s rights. These legal interventions may include strategic litigation, and seeking legal opinions, as well as wider measures such as supporting Together members to challenge rights breaches through informal processes etc.

Responsibilities include managing Clan’s Strategic Litigation Group, helping Together members identify opportunities for legal intervention, identifying strategic cases for Clan, and developing resources to promote the implementation and advance of children’s rights.

About Together (Scottish Alliance for Children’s Rights)

Together (Scottish Alliance for Children’s Rights) is a national alliance working to make children’s rights real for babies, children and young people across Scotland. We do this by supporting changes in law, policy and practice in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and other international human rights standards. We bring together over 600 members, from large national and international NGOs to small volunteer-led after school clubs and interested professionals.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Senior Residential Project Worker to join our Pentland Way residential Service.

Barnardo's Caern Disability Services consists of three unique Projects who deliver a variety of quality services for young people with learning disabilities and/or autism. We have done this for over 40 years.

At the Caern Short Breaks Service, we support up to 5 children and young people aged 5-18 by offering respite and short break packages to them and their families.

Working primarily in the residential setting you will promote the happiness, safety and welfare of the young people. You will play an active role in supporting the children and young people and their families/carers to achieve positive outcomes, as identified in the Young People's Individual Support Plans.

ABOUT YOU

Ideally you will have experience in working directly with children and young people in a residential setting. Experience in supporting children and young people with a learning disability and/or Autism is required.

You will work directly with the children and young people on shift, as part of the staff team on rota. In addition to this your main role will include

  • Responsibility for the day to day running of the house
  • Leading the staff on shift including rota management, leading practice and ensuring staff are working to high levels of performance in the best interests of the C&YP in our care.
  • Supervision of staff including Residential Project Workers and As & When staff
  • Supporting the Team Manager and Children's Service Manager with the ongoing development of the Service

The staff team across Caern Services must be fully accepting of our children and be prepared to offer them a professional relationship based on acceptance and informed by our understanding of their individual needs, wishes and experiences. We are passionate about the children and young people that we care for, showing understanding, empathy and consistency in our approach.

You will currently hold or be working towards a SVQ3 (Children and Young People) and also be willing to work towards a recognised SSSC qualification/s relevant to this role (Residential Worker with Supervisory Responsibilities).

This is a full-time position (37 hours). Working on a dayshift rota basis, you will typically work a rota of 5 out of 7 days, including weekends. You will require to be flexible for the needs of the Young People and the Service.

Barnardo's Caern Disability Services consists of three unique Projects who deliver a variety of quality services for young people with learning disabilities and/or autism. We have done this for over 40 years.

Our Pentland Way Service is a residential service providing support for up to three older young people. Using a person-centred approach, we aspire to create an environment in which the young people are happy, nurtured and safe. We aim to enhance their lives by supporting them to develop independence in both the domestic environment and the community.

ABOUT YOU

Ideally you will have experience in working directly with children and young people in a residential setting. Experience in supporting children and young people with a learning disability and/or Autism is required.

You will work directly with the children and young people on shift, as part of the staff team on rota. In addition to this your main role will include

  • Responsibility for the day to day running of the house
  • Leading the staff on shift including rota management, leading practice and ensuring staff are working to high levels of performance in the best interests of the C&YP in our care.
  • Supervision of staff including Residential Project Workers and As & When staff
  • Supporting the Team Manager and Children's Service Manager with the ongoing development of the Service

The staff team across Caern Services must be fully accepting of our children and be prepared to offer them a professional relationship based on acceptance and informed by our understanding of their individual needs, wishes and experiences. We are passionate about the children and young people that we care for, showing understanding, empathy and consistency in our approach.

You will currently hold or be working towards a SVQ3 (Children and Young People) and also be willing to work towards a recognised SSSC qualification/s relevant to this role (Residential Worker with Supervisory Responsibilities).

This is a full-time position (37 hours). Working on a dayshift rota basis, you will typically work a rota of 5 out of 7 days, including weekends. You will require to be flexible for the needs of the Young People and the Service.

Whilst the full pay band and salary range is advertised, our approach to starting salaries is to appoint between the minimum to mid-point of the pay band – this ensures that pay steps are available to reward our colleagues annually based on their contribution to excellence and alignment to our values and behaviours.
