About the Team

Our three Communities Teams are responsible for identifying, investigating and intervening in housing and homelessness practice issues. We engage with our local communities to understand the issues people are facing and apply expert housing knowledge, insight and analysis to identify solutions to them. As well as providing advice and advocacy for individuals, we also use our insight, relationships and influence to drive systemic change, always ensuring that Lived Experience is at the heart of everything we do.

About the role

You’ll be responsible for delivering high quality housing advice, advocacy and casework to clients in community settings and remotely in line with local pressing issues, and managing others in this. You will develop relationships within the sector to gather evidence and insights into the impact of the housing emergency, and using those insights to drive systems change. You will lead on the development and delivery of a programme of capacity building, ensuring other organisations have the skills to act on housing rights. Influencing a range of stakeholders and decision makers across the housing sector will be important too.

You will act as a leader within the project and the wider Communities Team to help deliver and evidence our strategy at an operational level. We will count on you to line manage, supervise, coach and mentor a housing rights worker.

About you

To succeed, you’ll need to have experience of working with, and influencing, a range of internal and external stakeholders and enjoy collaborating with people from other teams and organisations. You’ll also need great time management skills, an enthusiasm for delivering workshops and presentations and a willingness to challenge practice and hold people to account. You’ll have a flair for leading and motivating others. Adept at engaging with individuals and communities, you enjoy gathering evidence and identifying insights, issues and trends. What’s more, you present information and arguments in a clear and compelling way and have excellent problem-solving skills. Proficiency using IT like Word, Excel, email, internet and in-house CRM systems is also required.

The Walled Garden is one of Cyrenians public facing services, where we support people on Community Payback Orders to put back into the community and develop their own horticultural skills.

Set in a public space of half an acre within Dollar Park, the walled garden is valued by the local community, offering a space for events, volunteering and simply enjoying the tranquillity the garden has to offer.

About the role

You’ll be part of a small garden team who work closely with those on community payback orders and community volunteers. As community gardener you’ll:

• Contribute to the design and maintenance of the walled garden
• Support those on community payback orders to learn new skills
• Help create a community space where everyone feels welcome

About you

You’ll be an experienced and passionate gardener with a dynamic ‘can-do’ attitude. You should also have:

• A genuine interest in people, gardening and working outdoors.
• Experience of supporting individuals in a garden environment

We wish to appoint a Trusts and Communications Assistant to join our Marketing and Fundraising Team in our Head Office in Glasgow city centre.

Our teams in three projects work daily to improve the lives of our guests, helping them to flourish and know fullness of life. The Trusts and Communications Assistant will join a fundraising team that generates the income to continue this work to transform lives of those affected by homelessness, poverty and addiction.

The Trusts and Communications Assistant will play a key role ensuring that much needed funds are received from trusts and foundations by writing and submitting applications, writing reports and completing documents for funders. In addition, writing skills and creativity will be used to create content for our magazine, news stories, website and social media posts.

This position will require membership of the PVG scheme.

Because of the faith-based nature of our work, applicants should be in sympathy with the ethos and values of Glasgow City Mission.

The I Bike Project has been running since 2009 in Scotland, working with schools around the country, promoting healthy travel choices in Education. As the Project Officer you will work with selected schools in the Scottish Borders starting with the Earlston High cluster, to promote cycling, scooting, and walking to and from school and for independent journeys in leisure time.

As the Project Officer, you will support staff and volunteers promoting active travel within the school community, known as School Champions. And you will harness local authority resources available for active travel and to make links between schools, external partners, and the bicycle industry.

About you

You should have experience of working with children and young people. Along with working in schools, community groups, environment projects or young people in another setting.

You will also have good written and verbal communication skills. Excellent presentation skills and report writing skills. You will be able to prioritise your own workload.

You will have undertaken or be willing to undertake the National Standard cycle Instructor training and bike maintenance training.

A UK clean, valid driving license is vital for this role
