The Media and Communication Officer will support the Community Development Manager to develop and engagement activities and events within the area and communicate this activity to the wider community utilising a range of communication strategies through social media and newsletters.

Please note that the main function of this position is related to interacting with the community so while IT skills are beneficial they are not essential and the preference is for a candidate with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to make strong connections within the community who has basic knowledge of social media and a willingness and ability to learn the associated digital components.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• In conjunction with the Community Development Manager to plan, lead, develop and review the Trust’s Engagement and Communication Plan.
• To work with wider local partners.
• To build new, and strengthen existing, social connections in the community.
• To produce the Trust’s communications such as: community website, bi-annual newsletter, e-bulletins, annual report, and write press releases when required.
• To develop and expand on social media opportunities.
• To increase and engage with the membership of the Trust.
• To develop and run a programme of community events.
• To assist with general office administration

The Udny Community Trust Co (UCTC) have transformed “The Medan Centre” in Pitmedden, Aberdeenshire into a vibrant community hub which contains the UCTC office, Cafe48 and multi-purpose rooms. We now have the opportunity to employ an enthusiastic and self-motivated manager to help consolidate the gains we have made regarding community involvement and to fully utilise the Medan Centre.

Reporting directly to the Board, this is a stand-alone post where you will play a lead role in looking after the UCTC and the Medan Centre as well as supporting other groups to help deliver a wide variety of projects. This will require you to manage your workload and work effectively to deadlines.

Ideally, you will have previous experience of working on community projects, excellent communication and people skills including social media and the ability to organise and promote events and activities that deliver our aims and aspirations. You will have an inclusive approach which will empower people to play an active part. You will also demonstrate financial awareness along with the ability to run a multi-functional building. This role also promotes Health walks and other outdoor activities.

You will succeed by working with and drawing on the experience and skills of the local community and relevant agencies to promote partnership working and to develop local groups so that they are self-sustaining.

The post is offered, primarily, on a full-time permanent basis, but we may consider two part time posts, with flexible hours to suit both the needs of the Trust and the employee(s). Occasional evening work and weekend work will be required, and access to your own transport would be desirable.

Reporting to the Board of Directors and Trustees, the role of the Community Development Manager is to lead the Trust in the delivery of our key priorities to make Clackmannan a better place to live, work and visit. The Community Development Manager will lead a small team and be the focal point for community engagement and profile of the Trust, exploring options for service delivery and enhancement, and grant funding opportunities.

Strategy and Leadership

• To work with wider local partners in the voluntary, third, and public sectors to support the delivery of the Community Action Plan.
• To explore opportunities for the Trust to expand and enhance the services that it offers to the local population and visitors.
• In conjunction with the Board, develop and deliver an agreed Development Strategy, linked to the Community Action Plan.
• To build new and strengthen existing social connections in the community.
• To represent the Trust at events and meetings.

Community Engagement

• To interact with community groups, residents, and stakeholders.
• To engage and develop the number of volunteers required to support the Trust’s activities.
• To develop and deliver a programme of community events.
• To produce a bi-annual community newsletter, and monthly bulletins.
• To promote and market the Trust, using a range of media.

Governance

• To work with the Board of Directors to ensure that the Trust meets all its legalobligations.
• To develop, maintain, and enhance all policies and procedures governing the Trust’s activities.
• To provide the Board with regular reports regarding performance and delivery of services against the Development Strategy.

Staff Management and Leadership

• To manage and lead a small staff (currently two) in the delivery of the Trust’s objectives.
• To maintain good communication, consultation, and decision-making structures with and amongst staff.
• To support staff development and capability through regular assessment, training, and performance.

Finance

• To identify funding opportunities and prepare funding applications to secure the financial wellbeing of the Trust.
• To interact with Funders and provide information on costs and delivery of projects.
• To work with the Treasurer on the day-to-day financial management of the Trust, ensuring that financial controls and processes are adhered to.

● Plan a volunteering day at Tynecastle Park for employees of a corporate partner

● Approach business contacts to secure sponsorship for the annual Big Hearts Gala

● Meet with the commercial team at Heart of Midlothian to identify joint opportunities

● Assist in planning a host of events and appeals with colleagues in the Development Team

● Represent Big Hearts at Tynecastle Park on match days alongside charity and club staff
