This is an exciting opportunity to join Sustrans as part of our new Capacity Building teams; supporting local authorities across Scotland to deliver inclusive and fit-for-purpose walking, wheeling and cycling infrastructure.
As an engagement specialist, you will provide support to local authorities to deliver meaningful community engagement, which will feed into project development.
You will be supported by the wider Scotland Engagement team, who provide advice and expertise in equity, engagement and behaviour change.
This role will require travel and work at locations as necessary to undertake projects on behalf of Sustrans. You will support up to two local authorities at a time to help boost their capacity and work towards strategic objectives.
We will be supporting projects across the country, from Orkney and the Highlands, down to the central belt and beyond. This means that travel will be required, but we especially welcome applications from people based within easy reach of the Highlands and islands or Edinburgh and the Lothians.
There are two roles available.
About you
You will be an engagement professional with experience of working in or with local authorities; passionate about place and community, and ensuring local people are involved in decisions about the built environment.
Proven verbal and written communication skills including online and in person facilitation, presentation skills and report writing. You will be used to planning and delivering engagement activities including conducting risk assessments to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff and participants.
You will be skilled in the use of MS Office applications and remote conferencing platforms. We also ask that you have undertaken education or training relevant to engagement in the built environment, e.g., SP=EED or similar.
We ask you demonstrate your knowledge of active travel and issues facing communities that experience inequalities
Sustrans has a long-term commitment to being a charity for everyone - reducing inequality, valuing diversity, enabling inclusion and ensuring all people are treated with dignity and respect. We aim to be a truly inclusive employer and welcome applications from people from all parts of the community, in particular from under-represented groups.
