Role
Students’ unions can be transformational hubs for students, staff, and wider society. NUS Charity support our member’s development to enhance their capacity and harness opportunities to maximise their positive impact. We do this in many ways, from managing a purchasing consortium to drive great value for our members, to our development activity, supporting the best potential in students’ unions - we strive to make a difference to our members.
Within our small Union Development team, we deal with a range of organisational development work, whether that’s being the Returning Officer and supporting students’ union elections, running development events/webinars, helping new students’ unions create the structures that they need, coaching a students’ union leader who needs extra help, or creating guidance on new legislation that will effect students’ unions – no two days are the same.
Development Consultant Requirements:
NUS Charity is looking for a Development Consultant to strengthen organisational development for our members, predominantly in Scotland. We’re looking to diversify the knowledge within our team to deliver high quality projects in organisational development based on our Quality Students’ Unions framework. Particularly, we are interested in broadening our team knowledge to include creating/supporting strategy development and governance.
We welcome applications from homebased applicants outside the Edinburgh area, however there would be an expectation for you to visit the Edinburgh office once a week and students’ unions in Scotland frequently. For a successful candidate based outside the Edinburgh area, travel expenses and any travel time within work time for student union visits would be calculated based on an Edinburgh location.

Partnership & Mentor Recruitment Manager – North Region

CR Pathways is a national award-winning charity dedicated to addressing the long-standing inequality in education outcomes, career opportunities and life chances for young people in care and those on the edge of care and in need. Our in-school mentoring has proven to have profound impacts on young people; boosting their confidence, improving wellbeing and encouraging achievement and post-school progression. At present MCR mentors make and experience a life changing difference to over 4,000 young people from across the country.
We are looking for an outstanding Partnership & Mentor Recruitment Manager based in the North of Scotland - covering primarily the Highland area but also supporting the team in Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City. The role will focus on forming leading partnerships with key public and private sector organisations to drive mentor recruitment and also help create other opportunities for MCR young people. You will represent the regional mentor recruitment team, input to schools’ teams and meet targets to ensure we have as many mentors local to each school as our young people need.
You’ll establish a deeply personal service that inspires every partner, volunteer and individual to feel a hugely valued part of the MCR cause. This is exceptional relationship building and inspirational championing of the MCR cause in practice. You will be a motivated, committed, enthusiastic and resilient person with a strong and practical belief in addressing inequality. You will be the mentor champion for each of the young people, schools, employers and the local communities we serve.
There will be significant travel involved in this role so the successful candidate must have a driving licence and access to a car.

The Highlands and Islands Students’ Association (the Students’ Association) is a representative body for students at the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI), one of the most exciting education providers in the country with a focus on tertiary education.
It's an exciting time to join the Association: we have just recruited a new CEO, due to start in December, and following a restructure, this role (Director of Student Engagement and Representation) and the role of Director of Operations were created with staffing changes to other roles within the Student Engagement department too.

Regional Pathways Coordinator – West Of Scotland

Are you passionate about supporting young people and searching for a role where you can make a real difference? Where your time can be transformational? Our in-school mentoring has profound impacts on mentees in their confidence, wellbeing, achievement and post-school progression. We are looking for a Regional Pathways Coordinator to support our secondary school teams based across the West of Scotland.
This is a key role working in schools with the young people, mentors and school staff involved in our programme. The successful candidate will divide their time working across schools in Inverclyde, North Ayrshire, East and West Dunbartonshire and South Lanarkshire to provide additional cover (when needed), support, training and encouragement. The role requires flexibility, enthusiasm and the willingness to travel between locations (travel expenses will be reimbursed).
Responsibilities will include delivering group work, coordinating and supporting mentor meetings with their young people and being a go to person in school for the MCR programme. In times where school cover is less intensive you will form part of the regional team supporting local mentor recruitment, training and events depending on local circumstances. You will be an integral part of the schools community and wider MCR team, liaising with education colleagues and external stakeholders but the most important part of this role is delivering the MCR programme to young people.
Please note: A driving licence is essential for this role.
