Role

Accountability of post: The post holder will be line managed by and accountable to the CEO

Location: Hybrid working; the post holder will be based in the Glasgow office in Gordon Street and have the flexibility of working from home when charity needs allow.

About us

EmilyTest is a small Scottish charity working to tackle gender based violence in education. We work essentially with schools, colleges and Universities, helping them to develop effective policies, procedures and practices in relation to gender based violence prevention, intervention and support.

Our area of expertise is working closely with Colleges and Universities.

Our aim is to ensure every young person is able to live, work and study free from the harms and threats of Gender Based Violence.

Role

The position is funded by the Scottish Government Advanced Learning & Science directorate for a term of 12 months (extension subject to securing funding). The Research and Policy Manager will work with the organisation and board of trustees to:

  • Undertake large-scale empirical research with gender-based violence (GBV) in further and higher education
  • Apply research to ongoing development of GBV Charter, risk assessment and any associated training
  • Research and develop ‘good practice’ guides
  • Work with victims/survivors and professionals including research design, participant recruitment
  • Collect data & conduct data analysis
  • Develop cross-sector policy and research outputs, including statements, letters, and reports
  • Author evidence-based frameworks for GBV prevention, intervention, and support across further and higher education in Scotland
  • Advise on EmilyTest’s GBV policy stances
  • Advise on the practical implementation of evidence-based frameworks, primarily the GBV Charter for universities and colleges
  • Deliver lectures, talks and presentations on EmilyTest’s research and policy outputs to a range of audiences including academic and industry

Essential knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience & personal qualities

  • Knowledge of GBV in further and higher education and experience of studying/working in the field
  • experience in conducting independent research
  • experience of developing research outputs
  • ability to generate research and policy-relevant outputs
  • Have a warm and friendly manner, be committed, hardworking and highly motivated
  • Excellent time management with the ability to prioritise
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work in a non-judgemental, confident and sensitive manner with colleagues, clients and all partners
  • Be self motivated, work without supervision and show initiative

Desirable

  • Ability to be flexible with working hours
  • Knowledge of the Equally Safe strategy – Scottish Government

Personal Requirements

  • Able to take an objective approach and adapt projects as new needs are identified.
  • Ability to analyse and resolve challenges in an effective and timely manner.
  • Have a strong team spirit and an understanding of the dynamics of a small and rapidly evolving charity.
