Role

As the Greenways Officer, you will work with community groups, local authorities and other partners to understand, prioritise and deliver upon community needs and aspirations for their local National Cycle Network.

You will work closely with the Greenways Coordinator (Scotland) to help deliver aspects of the Greenways Programme on specific place-based projects. This will involve working with local organisations to enhance the use of the National Cycle Network (NCN) both for everyday journeys and as a local linear greenspace through a number of mini work packages. Additionally, you will be responsible for compiling Greenways case studies and regular Greenways community newsletters.

The Scottish Greenways Programme connects people and communities to biodiversity and places by their local National Cycle Network. By understanding local needs, we can make traffic free routes more accessible, attractive and appealing for walking, cycling and wheeling for everyday journeys and create local linear greenspaces that provide for community and biodiversity wellbeing. This role will require regular travel and work at locations as necessary to undertake projects on behalf of Sustrans. Candidates should be based within the central belt area with regular travel expected to meet partners in the west and south west of Scotland.

About you

You should have experience of working on or the delivery of community based programmes or projects. This is not limited to working in an organisation, it could also be experience from volunteering on a local community or environmental project. An interest in, and understanding the benefits of, active travel is essential.

You will build relationships easily and using this skill, you will connect with communities and partners, enthusing and motivating them. You should be able to engage with communities and be able to understand any challenges they face.
