Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a permanent part time Dementia Advisor position within our Scottish Borders Services.
The post holder will provide information on support services available locally for both the person with dementia and his/her carers and family members, providing advice and signposting as and when required.
The Dementia Advisor will also provide support to local communities within the respective localities to help them become more dementia-friendly and to increase their capacity to support those living with dementia. The post holder will work alongside the respective teams to deliver a blended approach of support, will develop and facilitate new activities for people living with dementia and carers whilst working alongside the Scottish Borders team to deliver and facilitate already established online virtual group work activities. The postholder will be based within Kelso Dementia Resource Centre. The post holder will work with individuals and groups of people affected by dementia and will seek to ensure that statutory and independent organisations improve their understanding and responses to the needs of people with dementia and their carers.
This is a very flexible role aimed at meeting the needs of people with dementia and their carers in a given geographical area. The focus and location of the post holder’s activity will vary from time to time depending on the needs of the people we support, although he/she will have a fixed office base.
Successful applicants will have a positive approach to dementia. You will also have good communication skills and a caring attitude. A willingness to learn and participate in training is essential. Relevant qualifications and/or experience of working with people with dementia would be an advantage.

About the role
We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated individual to join our Distress Brief Intervention team. Someone who has a good understanding of compassionate, person-centered, recovery-focused support work, and who has experience of leading a team and of working autonomously. This position will be office based, working in a fast paced environment where your experience of being able to multi-task will be called on daily. Educated to SVQ3 level or equivalent in Social Services or Health Care or relevant appropriate experience. If the post holder does not have this qualification they will be required to work towards it during their employment. Duties will include running of the day to day service, supervising the staff team, sharing your knowledge and supporting the Project Manager by leading, training and developing the team., You will be sharing good practice and developing joint protocols and processes.

Change Mental Health is the lead partner in the Highlands for the Scottish Government’s Distress Brief Intervention project (DBI). The DBI is a Scotland-wide project, delivering a ground-breaking approach to address the emotional and psychological pain experienced by people in distress.
Working in partnership with frontline services, including Police, Ambulance service, Primary Care and mental health teams, the project provides rapid referral to focused, short-term support, with the option of onward referral to longer-term support if required. We are looking for an Outreach Worker to join our service in Ross-shire, Highland.
You will work mainly on a one to one basis in the community, and/or in people’s homes being responsible for one to one support, including carrying a case load and developing and reviewing personal support plans. You will work autonomously being able to judge when you refer to your Manager, taking responsibility for your own work.
You will also have a lead role in developing the Service, through collaboration with the people who use the service, your colleagues across the Outreach Team and colleagues in stakeholder organisations. Working alongside our Highland team, the role offers you an opportunity to make a positive difference to the lives of people affected by mental health issues.
Who are we looking for?
The ideal candidate will have experience of working in the mental health field or in another area of support work, an SVQ3 (or equivalent) qualification in Health and Social Care.
A driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential for this role.

About the Role:
We are seeking to appoint 1 highly motivated individual to join our DBI team. DBI Coordinators provide support, advice and personal support planning for people referred from front-line services, carrying out short-term work with people in distress to review the reasons for their distress, develop immediate coping strategies and link them into a range of appropriate community services and facilities.
The purpose of this role is to work with people in distress who are referred by front line services (including Police Scotland, Scottish Ambulance Service, NHS24 and Primary Care) to the Level 2 Distress Brief Intervention team. The work includes: reviewing the reasons for distress, working with individuals to develop their Distress Brief Intervention Management Plan and using supported referral to link individuals into a range of appropriate community services and facilities as appropriate.
Training in Level 2 Distress Brief Intervention, specific to the post, will be provided.
The post holders will be required to join the PVG Scheme, or update their membership record for regulated work with protected adults. (The costs are met by the employer)
These posts are part time, working 28 hours per week, office hours of 9am – 5pm with some weekend working on a rota basis (approx. every 7wks)
