The Scottish Union of Supported Employment (SUSE) is recruiting a new Chairperson for our board. We are particularly keen on applications from people with a strong background in charity governance or leadership and those with lived experience of disability.
About SUSE
The Scottish Union of Supported Employment (SUSE) is the national representative body for supported employment providers and anyone interested in ensuring that disadvantaged people across our country have the opportunity of a working life. We bring organisations together to campaign, network, improve how we work and share our experiences. Our aim is to support people with disadvantages to find and retain paid work by increasing the availability, quality and impact of supported employment services in Scotland.

The SUSE Chairperson
The SUSE board is mainly drawn from our membership who are employability providers with expertise in supporting disabled people to find and retain paid employment. The Chairperson normally serves for 3 years and can be invited to extend their tenure when this is appropriate. We have recently recruited some new Trustees with a range of skills and experience and are now seeking a suitable candidate to serve as our Chairperson. We welcome applications from disabled people and those living with long term conditions.
The Candidate
To help us in the next stage of the charity’s development we are looking for an individual with expertise in some or all of the following areas:
What We Offer
We offer excellent training and development opportunities and will reimburse travel expenses. Mentoring support from existing board members and SUSE staff is offered to facilitate a positive onboarding experience for our new Chairperson.
What Is Required
The board of SUSE normally meet on a quarterly basis, usually in the late afternoon or early evening. The successful candidate will also be required to attend some additional meetings or events throughout the year such as our AGM.
Recently the board have been meeting virtually via Teams but we anticipate more face to face meetings in the year ahead. This may be at our office in Kirkintilloch or at a suitable venue.
Board members are also asked to offer occasion support for the charity’s activities such as participating in short life working groups when these are necessary.
