We promote the right of all individuals with a disability or long-term health condition to achieve their full potential, specifically overcoming barriers to employment and accessing real jobs for real pay. Working with our members and stakeholders we pioneer new approaches, challenge assumptions and champion best practice in our field.
The Scottish Union of Supported Employment (SUSE) is recruiting a new Chairperson for our board. We are particularly keen on applications from people with a strong background in charity governance or leadership and those with lived experience of disability.

The SUSE Chairperson
The SUSE board is mainly drawn from our membership who are employability providers with expertise in supporting disabled people to find and retain paid employment. The Chairperson normally serves for 3 years and can be invited to extend their tenure when this is appropriate. We have recently recruited some new Trustees with a range of skills and experience and are now seeking a suitable candidate to serve as our Chairperson. We welcome applications from disabled people and those living with long term conditions.
The Candidate
To help us in the next stage of the charity’s development we are looking for an individual with expertise in some or all of the following areas:
What We Offer
We offer excellent training and development opportunities and will reimburse travel expenses. Mentoring support from existing board members and SUSE staff is offered to facilitate a positive onboarding experience for our new Chairperson.
What Is Required
The board of SUSE normally meet on a quarterly basis, usually in the late afternoon or early evening. The successful candidate will also be required to attend some additional meetings or events throughout the year such as our AGM.
Recently the board have been meeting virtually via Teams but we anticipate more face to face meetings in the year ahead. This may be at our office in Kirkintilloch or at a suitable venue.
Board members are also asked to offer occasion support for the charity’s activities such as participating in short life working groups when these are necessary.
This is a 28 hour per week post. There are no set hours of work and they can be worked flexibly in agreement with the Chief Executive Officer. The Apt Disability Employment Gap PSP is a unique and forward thinking initiative in the Scottish employability landscape. In the Fairer Scotland: Employment Action Plan the Scottish Government committed to halving the disability employment gap in Scotland by 2038. A key element of the strategy is to build the capacity of employers to recruit, support and retain disabled people. The PSP is developing and delivering a range of innovative projects which support employers to address the gaps in their knowledge and expertise, improving the employment prospects of disabled people and working towards a culture change in our workplaces. SUSE is the lead partner of the PSP and is the host employer of the PSP Evidence & Impact Manager.
This is a flexible, varied and interesting role that offers the post holder the opportunity to work in a fast changing setting and contribute to the development of an innovative project. The post holder will be expected to multitask and achieve competing demands to set deadlines. The Evidence & Impact Manager will work with the PSP, with individual providers, workstreams and key stakeholders to implement evidence gathering, intelligence management and analysis, which will allow us to assess outcomes and benefits, make effective and timely decisions, to self-evaluate and report on:
We offer a pension contribution of 8%, life insurance and a generous annual leave entitlement of 28 days (including public holidays) for this 0.8 FTE post. The salary for this role is £35,200 for 28 hours per week. The FTE salary is £44,000. We will also consider recruiting this position on a consultancy basis with an agreed day rate.

This is a flexible, varied and interesting role that offers the post holder the opportunity to work in a fast changing setting and contribute to the development of this forward thinking charity. The post holder will be expected to multitask and achieve competing demands to set deadlines. She / he will organise events, work closely with SUSE members, co-ordinate the statutory and governance aspects of the charity and provide an administration and finance function. SUSE is also the lead partner in the Disability Employment Gap Public Social Partnership. The Business Manager will contribute to the delivery of this project, specifically liaison with project partners and staff, organisation of events and communications.
The successful candidate will provide an excellent standard of customer care for our members and stakeholders, support the work of our staff, CEO and trustees and oversee the day to day administration of the charity including liaison with suppliers, co-ordinating basic HR and finance processes, dealing with enquiries and general office duties.

We are recruiting for an exciting post that will support the delivery of the Apt Disability Employment Gap Public Social Partnership (PSP).
A PSP is a strategic partnering arrangement which involves the third sector in the design and commissioning of public services. The Disability Employment Gap PSP is a unique and forward thinking initiative in the Scottish employability landscape. It is delivering a range of innovative projects which support employers to address the gaps in their knowledge and expertise, improving the employment prospects of disabled people and working towards a culture change in our workplaces.
The Development Manager will support the ongoing implementation of the PSP, co-ordinate its day-to-day activities and work closely with partners and workstreams and ensure the aims of the PSP are delivered.
SUSE has been selected as the lead partner of the PSP and is the host employer of the PSP Development Manager. We are looking for an individual who has excellent communication skills and knowledge of the employability sector. She/he will have experience of delivering successful projects, be adept at building partnerships and engaging stakeholders and demonstrate drive and commitment to achieving lasting change in Scotland’s workplaces.

We are recruiting for an exciting new post that will support the delivery of our SUSE Digital Hub.

SUSE has been awarded a grant from the Adapt & Thrive fund to develop a SUSE Digital Hub. The Digital Communications Officer will join our small team and will lead on this exciting project. Duties will include developing creative, engaging and informative digital content for use across the SUSE website and our social media channels, creating a range of short films, participating in the development of our marketing plan, designing a range of resources including promotional materials, serving as the managing editor of the SUSE website and working with our website development partner to develop online resources
SUSE is also the lead partner in the Disability Employment Gap Public Social Partnership. The Digital Communications Officer will contribute to the delivery of the project, specifically leading on the Digital Recruitment Review element including liaison and support for employers.
