Role

Glasgow Council for the Voluntary Sector plays a key role in supporting the third (or voluntary) sector in the city to meaningfully engage and collaborate with the public sector, with a focus on developing the sector’s role in informing decision-making and designing & delivering services for citizens. The organisation has small team of Partnership and Engagement Managers who, with support from the CEO and other colleagues, work together to cover the wide range of issues of relevance to our diverse sector.

Following the retirement of our highly regarded lead for Children, Young People and Family services, we are now recruiting for a new Partnership and Engagement Manager to join the team. Specific policy responsibilities will likely change over time, but the new post holder will initially have responsibility for policy areas associated with ensuring that Glasgow’s children and young people have the best start in life. This includes early years, childcare & after school care, children’s health & mental health, family support, youth work, youth justice, financial inclusion, and housing & homelessness. GCVS and the third sector have good working relationships with public sector colleagues in these areas, and the post-holder has an excellent opportunity to develop these and ensure a strong third sector contribution to the city’s response to GIRFEC, The Promise and the Whole Family Wellbeing Fund.

The role will require the post-holder to build a good, strategic understanding of these issues, however this is not necessarily required at appointment. It is not the post-holder’s role to be the expert, their role is to support the expertise of our sector to be heard. To do this it is essential that the successful candidate has the skills and facilitative approach needed to engage with stakeholders, can build trust by demonstrating integrity and a commitment to our values, and shares the sector’s commitment to human rights and achieving the best for the city’s citizens.
