Aberlour Sycamore Services- Fort William, is a residential care home for children and young people between the ages of 12 years and 18 years old, helping them to live and grow in a community setting. We work using a Dyadic Developmental Practice model which means that we ensure that the child and their behaviour is understood and the child feels as safe as possible at home, in school and in social activities.

We are looking to recruit a Residential Worker to join our team in Fort William, you will work 37.5 hours per week working in a residential house. We have a core team of Residential Workers who support our young people, helping them to achieve and overcome the challenges they face. At Aberlour, we believe that every child deserves the change to flourish regardless of their background and the circumstances that have brought them to live with Aberlour. The children we support are presently not able to live safely with their own families and many of them have suffered from trauma and loss in their young lives. Working therapeutically with the young people, using a Dyadic Developmental approach, our aim is to help the young people to develop their confidence and self-worth and therefore to maximise their potential and opportunities for living fulfilled and happy lives. As a Residential Worker, you will play a fundamental role in ensuring that our young people are working towards their goals through supporting them with different daily activities. These activities can include college, different hobbies and attending fun groups. Not without its challenges and demands, this is a highly rewarding role.

This service operates a residential rota and, as part of this, you will be expected to work evenings, weekends, nights and public holidays. We are looking to appoint a part-time Project Worker 1 within our Thrive Service. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced worker to join Barnardo's and support service delivery within our children and young people's disability service.

We are seeking individuals who are keen to develop their experience of supporting children and young people through groupwork and on a 1-1 basis at our service base. The Thrive service operates Monday – Thursday from after school until early evening to 7pm. The work pattern each week would be 24 hours over Monday – Thursday from 1.30 – 7.30pm.

General responsibilities and requirements

• HNC Social Care or equivalent
• Previous experience of working with children and young people
• Have experience of developing and facilitating groupwork
• Being creative, dynamic and flexible to meet the needs of children and young people
• Working effectively as part of a team
• Experience and knowledge of applying safeguarding policies and procedures
• An understanding of the adversities experienced by children, young people and families, particularly around disability and ASN
• Complete assessments, care plans and maintain recordings in line with local and organisational policy

This is an exciting opportunity to work within our Money Advice Team as part of our Money, debt, benefits and Energy advice delivery, supporting our additional services across the charity.

Our Money Advice service works alongside families to address the challenges and risks which may have led to vulnerability, promote connection to their local communities, and improve financial stability and resilience. Our aim is to support communties to become more resilient and a place where children feel safe, valued, understood and supported.

The Money Advice advisor will support local teams offering support, community connection, and expert benefit, energy and debt advice. This will enable families to resolve debt and money problems, become more financially resilient and break the cycle of poverty.

A priority for the Money Advice advisor will be to increase the capacity of our current service to provide Type I and II Money Advice in one of the most deprived areas in Scotland.

You will work as part of our National Money Advice team offering remote advice to families across Scotland by telephone or webchat. You will support families within their homes, deliver workshops within the community and in schools, and offer drop-in sessions within the community.

If you have experience of delivering money, and debt advice, understand the impact trauma and adversity can have on children and families, and believe that you can apply this to your practice, we want to hear from you.

This is a full time, 35 hours post funded until the 31 March 2029 with the intention to explore funding options beyond this date. Hours to be worked flexibly to suit the needs of families, including evenings and weekends as required.
