People living with dementia who are also diagnosed with cancer face some of the starkest inequalities in Scottish health care. Serious symptoms get put down to dementia rather than investigated. Cancer is picked up late. Treatment decisions happen at speed, in unfamiliar settings, with little support to understand information or express what matters. We think communities can change that, and we are looking for the person to lead the work.

Meeting Centres Scotland is the national charity behind Scotland's network of Meeting Centres: welcoming, local places where people living with dementia and their families find support to adjust to change and keep living well in their communities. Our network has grown to around 47 centres across 17 local authority areas, reaching more than 1,000 people every month.

Cancer-ready Meeting Centres is a two year national project funded by Macmillan Cancer Support. Working alongside a lived experience advisory group of people with dementia who have been through cancer, and the family members who supported them, you will co-design training, practical tools and a standards framework that equip Meeting Centres to support people through diagnosis, treatment and beyond. You will build referral and liaison pathways with Health Boards, Health and Social Care Partnerships, Macmillan professionals and oncology teams, and lead a rights based influencing strand that puts diagnostic overshadowing and shared decision making on the agenda of cancer services and planners.

We are looking for an experienced project manager who is at home facilitating a room where people with dementia, family carers and clinicians sit as equal partners; who can hold a national, multi strand project together; and who believes that a dementia diagnosis should never be a barrier to good cancer care. Experience across both dementia and cancer is welcome but by no means required. Values, facilitation skill and delivery ability matter most.

We offer a salary of £39,000, 37 days of annual leave (inclusive of public holidays, rising with each full year of service up to 5 additional days), an 8% employer pension contribution, genuinely flexible home based working, and the chance to build something with UK-wide potential alongside a small, committed national team.

The Community Brokerage Network is looking for a new Operations Manager to lead our small, committed team and help shape the next stage of our development. Working across Ayrshire, we provide free, independent brokerage support to people navigating Self-directed Support and an increasingly challenging social care system.

This is a varied and influential role for someone who can combine strategic thinking with practical, hands-on leadership. You will work closely with our Board, lead and support our staff team, oversee funded services and organisational systems, build strong partnerships and ensure the voices and experiences of the people we support remain at the heart of everything we do.

For 12 years, CBN has helped disabled people, unpaid carers and others who need social care to understand their rights, explore their options and plan support that works for them. We are entering an important period of development. Demand for our support is growing, the social care environment is changing rapidly and a new funding cycle is approaching. We are looking for someone who can provide confident leadership now while helping CBN develop new opportunities and build a sustainable future.

What you’ll do

• Lead the day-to-day management and development of CBN.
• Work with the Board to turn strategy into practical plans and effective delivery.
• Lead, support and develop our staff team and promote a positive organisational culture.
• Oversee service quality, referrals, complex practice issues and organisational systems.
• Manage budgets, funding agreements, monitoring and impact reporting.
• Develop strong funding applications and identify new income and partnership opportunities.
• Maintain effective governance, compliance, risk and health and safety arrangements.
• Represent CBN and build strong relationships with Health and Social Care Partnerships, funders and third-sector partners.
• Use evidence and lived experience to contribute to wider discussions about Self-directed Support and social care.

About you

You do not need to have done this exact job before. You will, however, need experience of leading people and services, sound organisational judgement and the confidence to manage a broad remit within a small organisation.

You will be comfortable moving between Board reports, staff support, funding applications, budgets, partnership meetings and practical operational issues. You will share our commitment to human rights, inclusion and person-led support, and you will understand the importance of combining challenge with constructive relationships.

Knowledge of Self-directed Support and Scotland’s social care landscape would be valuable. We would also welcome applicants who bring strong transferable leadership experience and are ready to learn.

Contract and funding

The post is currently funded to 31 March 2027. CBN has maintained continuous funding since it was established 12 years ago, and applications for the next funding period and other income sources will form an important part of the role. While continued funding cannot be guaranteed, the Board is committed to pursuing a sustainable future for the organisation.

Travel and other requirements

Regular travel across North, South and East Ayrshire is required, including to some rural locations that are not well served by public transport. A driving licence and access to a vehicle are therefore normally required, although we will consider reasonable alternatives that allow the full requirements of the role to be met.

Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for events, meetings or conferences. The successful applicant will also be required to join the appropriate PVG Scheme and complete a three-month probationary period.

About the role

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, you'll provide strategic and operational leadership for Cruse Scotland's client services. You'll lead a team of Area Managers, our Helpline Development Manager and Client Services Co-ordinator, to ensure our core services and projects are delivered consistently and continue to meet the changing needs of the people who rely on us.

We are looking for a Health and Social Care professional to join our nationwide network of Huntington’s Disease Specialists to provide care management, specialist assessment and emotional support to individuals and families across Scotland.

Working in partnership with local Health and Social Care teams, you will also provide advice, training and education to professionals and voluntary agencies involved in all aspects of Huntington’s disease care.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and motivated to have a positive influence on the quality of life of the individuals and families they support. This role is open to medical and health and social care staff from backgrounds such as nursing, allied health, social work and medicine. Professional body membership is essential. Previous experience of Huntington’s disease is advantageous but not essential as full training will be provided.

You should be able to work autonomously in this challenging and rewarding position. Good listening, communication and interpersonal skills are vital, as are excellent time keeping and caseload management abilities. Community-based practice knowledge, a driving licence and use of a car complete our list of essential criteria. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced disclosure check.
