As part of our Psychological Therapies service we are looking to recruit a dynamic and flexible Art Therapist to provide Art Therapy to young people and adults who are experiencing substance misuse issues or who are affected by the substance misuse of a family member, friend or someone who has been a significant person in their lives and to young people who have experienced the sudden death of a family member, friend or significant other

This is a fixed term post until 31 March 2026, funded through the West Lothian Whole Family Approach Public Social Partnership and The Robertson Trust. The role will mainly involve face to face 1 to 1 working, with some group work interventions across West Lothian in a range of settings. Some evening work and weekend work may be required from time to time.

This post is delivered in person and is not suitable for hybrid or home working. The Service operates from premises at The Almondbank Centre in Craigshill, Livingston.

West Lothian Drug & Alcohol Service (WLDAS) is a well-established third sector organisation with a history and reputation for delivering a wide range of effective education and prevention, early interventions and psychological therapies around alcohol, drug and tobacco services throughout West Lothian.

As part of a Collaborative with Circle and West Lothian Youth Action Project (WLYAP) we are seeking to recruit a Specialist Link Worker within our Therapeutic Support Service.

This will be a part-time post (29hrs per week) on a FIXED TERM basis of a 5-year contract.

The Specialist Link Worker will work alongside our other partners in the Collaborative with a focus on a rapid assessment approach, support to young people aged between 12 and 18 who are using substances, as well as offering direct support to the workforce by ensuring the provision of bespoke training and by providing ongoing consultation for those involved in providing children’s services. The post also has a counselling and support element working with young people who would benefit from trauma informed psychological interventions.

The role will involve 1 to 1 working with individuals and group work interventions across West Lothian in a range of settings and will involve working alongside WLDAS’ Young Person’s worker. Some evening work and weekend work may be required.

About the Service

Our main objectives and activities are the promotion and prevention of the misuse of substances and the provision of support to people with substance problems to both reduce harm and support recovery. Our main areas of charitable activity are the provision of advice and information, health promotion, counselling and support, education and training and grief counselling. The strategies employed to assist us to meet these objectives include the following:

  • Providing a range of services which meet relevant quality standards and address the problems related to substance misuse.
  • Limiting the harms associated with substance abuse, not only for the individual but also their family and friends and the wider community of West Lothian.
  • Providing educational sessions within schools and communities, aimed to increase the awareness of and reduce the harms caused by substances.
  • Working towards applying national standards of service and working in partnership with other agencies to secure the widest range of services available that best matches the needs of its client population.

About the role

Reporting to the Board of Management and supported by the Therapeutic Support Service Manager, the Business Manager and a small administrative team, the General Manager will be responsible for formulating, setting and delivering the strategic development and funding of the service.

Maintaining and building on external relationships with local commissioning bodies and other agencies is critical to the role.

About you

We are looking for a skilled and talented individual who will bring innovative approaches to service delivery and organisational development as we seek to consolidate and expand our current portfolio of services and market them more widely.

The General Manager should have a demonstrable track record of leading and managing successful operations, strategic development and funding applications and could be from either a clinical or operational background. They must be able to evidence effective leadership skills, strategic and financial acumen, and delivery. Experience of successful relationship management is essential.

Importantly, the General Manager must be an effective communicator with strong empathy with the Charity’s vision, goals and ethos. Their personal values should match with those of the organisation. They should include evidence of personal drive, energy and the ability to deliver outcomes to the highest standard, demonstrating commitment to see things through.
