About the role

We’re looking for someone with experience providing high-quality housing advice, advocacy and casework, alongside the confidence to lead and support others in delivering excellent services. You’ll oversee complex casework, promote housing rights and quality standards, and provide coaching and line management to Housing Rights Workers. Working closely with communities, partner organisations and decision-makers, you’ll build relationships, influence positive change and use evidence and lived experience to improve housing outcomes. You’ll also help lead local projects, support strategic interventions and ensure people affected by the housing emergency are empowered to shape Shelter Scotland’s work and wider housing policy.

Role specifics

We’re looking for someone who can inspire and support others while delivering high-quality housing rights services. You’ll have knowledge of housing and social justice issues, excellent communication skills and the confidence to deliver workshops, presentations and advice to a range of audiences. You’ll be organised, adaptable and able to manage competing priorities, with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to build relationships, influence decision-makers and empower individuals and communities. You’ll also be confident using IT systems, gathering evidence and insight, and turning this into meaningful action that helps improve housing outcomes.

About the team

There are three Community Teams - North, West and East. These teams of housing rights workers engage with and activate communities in delivering insight and evidence and targeted interventions, to address local issues and contribute towards the Shelter Scotland Housing Emergency campaign for structural change.

We are looking for an individual with the passion and commitment to provide high-quality one-to-one and group support for women who have experienced, or are experiencing, domestic abuse.

Mission Statement

Our long-term vision is to end youth homelessness. Our more immediate mission is to ensure that every young person in Scotland has access to expert youth specific services to assist them to avoid, resolve and move on from homelessness, making it rare, brief, and non-recurring.

Context

The Upstream Project Worker plays a key role in delivering early intervention and homelessness prevention support to young people within secondary schools. Working directly with young people aged approximately 14–18, the Project Worker provides flexible, relationship-based one-to-one support alongside informal school drop-ins and targeted interventions. The focus is on building trust, creating a safe space to talk and supporting young people to navigate challenges such as family conflict, emotional wellbeing, identity, school engagement and housing instability before situations reach crisis point.

The role also involves working closely with families and school staff to ensure young people are supported in a joined-up way. This includes contributing to multi-agency discussions, supporting early identification of need through school surveys and triage processes and linking young people into appropriate services such as counselling, housing support, welfare advice and wider community resources. Practical support is a key part of the role, alongside future planning work such as CV building, employability and preparation for post-school transitions.

About the role

The Homeless Navigator Project seeks to address the visible problem of rough sleeping in the City of Edinburgh. The project aims to offer an alternative opportunity for people who are experiencing homelessness and cannot, for whatever reason, make use of the current support services that exist in Edinburgh.

The post holder will provide advice and support to rough-sleepers and those without permanent housing. The service is delivered in a street-based setting, moving between service users on foot as part of a 2-3 hour planned route through central Edinburgh.

About You

You will be a resilient and outgoing individual with strong interpersonal skills an innovative approach. You will be committed to promoting inclusion and will have experience of working with people with a broad range of life experiences.

You should have knowledge of local services and their access criteria, enabling you to provide good quality advice, ideally with experience of delivering street-based work in Edinburgh.

You’ll be working independently with a supportive manager and a range of internal and external colleagues and partnerships. You will have access to wider Cyrenians support, including our learning and development programme, and staff wellbeing services.
