This is a permanent, full-time role within Scran Academy with the core purpose of supporting young people to gain confidence, experience and skills using food and cooking.
The successful candidate will help change the lives of young people facing exclusion by supporting them using food and cooking as a vehicle to build skills and confidence. The post holder will support young people from 11+, with core groups aged from 14+, to gain positive experiences through a blend of group work, vocational training, accreditation, 1-2-1 delivery and outcomes-driven youth work. This means that the successful candidate will be expected to inspire and be inspired by young people. Using food, cooking and the professional rigour expected in a kitchen, the post holder will design and deliver engaging sessions that give groups and individuals a strong sense of power and purpose.
The post holder will deliver across programmes within Scran, and will report to the CEO with oversight from both the Academy Programme Lead and the Food and Learning Manager.
A typical week would support delivery in various locations: Mondays, Fridays, and occasional weekends will flexibly support our catering and outreach programmes, either at our café site in Comely Bank, or at various locations from our famous food truck, the Scran Van. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays will be dedicated to co-delivering our Academy and Tutoring programmes in our site at the Gyle.
A full driving license for manual vehicles is essential for this role.

Your role
The role holder will be expected to be an exemplar for the values of CHS including listening to and valuing the voice of children and young people, the contribution of volunteers, and ensuring a respected, quality based, and sustainable tribunal system is delivered on behalf of the National Convenor.
Reporting to the Director of Tribunal Delivery, the Regional Tribunal Delivery Manager is a Senior Manager post responsible for one of 9 regions across Scotland. You will lead and manage a team of staff and volunteers to deliver the National Conveners statutory duties for the provision of Children’s Hearings across a dedicated region in Scotland to a consistent high quality standard.
You will be joining CHS at a pivotal point. Alongside the team of Regional Tribunal Delivery Managers, your Partnership and Wellbeing Coordinators and Area Support volunteers you will play a pivotal role in ensuring our volunteer communities are effectively supported to continue to embed our regional tribunal support model; implementation of the Children’s Care & Justice Act and future Hearings for Children reforms.
The core purpose of this role will be to provide, management and support to the regional team members (including volunteers) to deliver the National Conveners statutory duties around the provision of Children’s Hearings across a dedicated region in Scotland. The role holder will be key to managing the relationship(s) between Tribunal Members who are volunteers and the organisation more broadly.
The role holder will share collective responsibility for delivering organisational objectives, through active engagement and collaboration with colleagues at all levels in the organisation;

At Children’s Hearings Scotland, our highly trained Panel Members make decisions for Scotland’s unique Children’s Hearings System that upholds and promotes the rights of infants, children and young people. Our 2,500 volunteer Panel Members take part in children’s hearings in their local areas, making decisions with and for infants, children and young people. The Astley Ainslie Community Trust is a charity working to achieve community ownership of the Astley Ainslie hospital in Edinburgh, when the NHS vacate the site. We have 750 local members, and a wider community of people interested in the future of the site.
The hospital celebrated its Centenary in 2023. To commemorate this milestone, the AACT are conducting an Oral History project which will collect spoken memories from people with connections to the hospital over the years. Heritage Lottery have awarded funding for this project.
The project will involve recording and collecting 40 oral history accounts from staff, patients, friends and family. The oral histories will be archived with Edinburgh Universities Lothian Health Services Archive. There will also be a small exhibition showcasing a selection of the oral histories in a public space.
We are looking for someone to project manage and lead the execution of this project.

We are looking for a person who will be:
Highly organised with an eye for detail
Friendly and able to communicate effectively with different project stakeholders
Familiar with the requirements of working on a self-employed basis (eg covering own tax and insurance etc).
Comfortable engaging with volunteers and members of the public.
We would expect provision of these services to occupy 80-90 days from January 2025 until the project end date of 25th November 2025, for which we are offering £200 per day based on time invoiced.
Remote and in-person working at multiple locations will be required.

Our Services
