Our Legacy: With a history spanning over 155 years, ESCA is the link between students and charitable giving. We have a rich legacy of empowering students to fundraise for causes they care about.
Our Aim: ESCA's aim is to inspire, support, and enable students to organise innovative fundraising events that benefit both local and global charitable initiatives.
What We Do:
Empower Students: ESCA provides students with the resources, guidance, and support they need to create and manage their fundraising events. We believe in the power of young minds to drive positive change.
Fundraising Support: We offer grants, event planning assistance, technology resources, and mentorship to students, helping them turn their ideas into impactful fundraisers.
Community Engagement: ESCA fosters a sense of community among students, volunteers, and charitable organisations, strengthening our collective ability to make a difference.
What We Are Looking For:
As part of our open recruitment for Board members, ESCA is specifically seeking individuals with expertise and experience in the following areas:
HR/Legal Expertise: We are looking for someone with a background in human resources or legal affairs who can provide guidance on governance, compliance, and HR-related matters.
Finance/Accounting Experience: We seek a Board member with financial and accounting expertise to help oversee our financial operations, budgets, and financial strategy.
Marketing and PR Experience: ESCA aims to expand its reach and impact. We need a marketing and PR expert who can help us develop and execute effective strategies to raise awareness and support.

What to Expect at ESCA:
Board Meetings: Trustees typically commit to attending monthly in-person board meetings. These meetings provide a forum for strategic discussions, decision-making, and updates from our students.
Communication Commitments: Alongside Board meetings, trustees will be expected to engage in document reviews and correspondence, ensuring effective communication and preparation for upcoming meetings and ESCA activities.
Event Participation: Depending on your availability and interests, you may choose to participate in ESCA events, engaging with the community and supporting our initiatives.

- Active in networks across Scottish civic society or experience in influencing others
- Environmental sustainability

Edinburgh Napier Students’ Association (ENSA) exists to enable our 20,000 student members across Edinburgh and around the globe to make the most of their university experience. We do this by representing, supporting and developing Edinburgh Napier University students to be successful in their studies; to try out new things; to engage in, and contribute to, university life; to be healthy and happy; to bring about positive change; and to have fun.
About the role
As our Chair has now come to the end of her term in office, we are looking to recruit a new Chair with the skills and experience to lead the Board of Directors, promoting good governance and providing effective and empowering line management to support our CEO. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who has the strategic focus, governance understanding, leadership experience and time to support and develop a committed Board and ensure ENSA delivers the best experience for students.

About ENSA’s Board of Directors
The Board is collectively in charge of ENSA, for upholding its values and aligning it to the Association’s charitable aims. It has overall responsibility for ENSA’s governance: budget-setting and financial reporting, health and safety, human resources and legal compliance.
The Board is made up of 12 Directors: six External Lay Directors (including the Chair) appointed through a competitive process for their professional expertise; three Student Lay Directors who are registered students of Edinburgh Napier University and appointed through a competitive process; and three Sabbatical Officers who are elected by the student body.
In line with charity law, all ENSA’s Directors (elected and appointed) have equal status. Directors have a variety of experience and skills which offer different perspectives, and are all, jointly and severally, liable for the governance of the charity. Directors are expected to take their responsibilities seriously, attend meetings, and manage any conflicts of interests appropriately.
Bridging the Gap (Glasgow) are recruiting a Chair who understands the role and importance of governance in the third sector. We are looking for people who act with integrity, compassion, honesty, and who are passionate about our work and the role of the third sector.
Bridging the Gap (Glasgow) is a Glasgow wide community charity established in 1998 working to ‘bridge the gap’ in communities, removing barriers to participate in activities whilst working towards the reduction of social and economic inequality and stigma.
Ideally you will have experience of working at a senior management level and will have a deep understanding of the nature of governance, community development and the stigma that is attached to poverty.

Bridging the Gap (Glasgow) is a Glasgow wide community charity established in 1998 working to ‘bridge the gap’ in communities, removing barriers to participate in activities whilst working towards the reduction of social and economic inequality and stigma.
Our vision is ‘Where people grow, thrive, fully participate in life and are free from social and economic inequality’.
We aim to reduce loneliness, develop community peer support, cohesion and resilience whilst reducing poverty and stigma. We do this by delivering a varied programme of activities and events in collaboration with key stakeholders.
We are a registered charity and Company Limited by Guarantee.
Commitment
The board meets quarterly, either face-to-face, via video chat, or as a hybrid of the two.
The duration of Board meetings is usually no longer than 1.5 hours.
All relevant papers are forwarded on a reasonable timescale, either via email or posted in hard copy.
Additionally, the Chair will be expected to meet regularly with the CEO and act as Spokesperson where required.
The Chair is a voluntary role but Bridging the Gap (Glasgow) will cover relevant out-of-pocket travel and other expenses that would allow you to attend meetings.
Aside from the meetings, additional time consideration should be given to allow time to read through relevant papers, follow up on any action points, and may involve attending occasional additional meetings, events, or strategy days.
