Role

Who we are

The General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTC Scotland) is the teaching profession’s independent registration and regulation body. We work to maintain and enhance trust in teaching.

We are governed by a Council of 37 members.

What we’re looking for

We are looking to appoint 4 lay people to serve on our Council.

* Any lay person applicant must not be, nor have ever been, registered with GTC Scotland; and not hold a qualification that would make you eligible for registration with GTC Scotland.

Play a key role in the strategic development and performance management of GTC Scotland. Ensure GTC Scotland meets its statutory functions and aims.

Learn

Work with people from a wide range of educational and other backgrounds; develop and strengthen your skills whilst gaining a deeper understanding of the key issues facing GTC Scotland, Scottish education and the teaching profession in Scotland.

Appointment: 3 positions for a four year term to 1 April 2028; 1 position for a two year term to 1 April 2026

Commitment: Attendance may involve a commitment ranging between four and twelve days per annum.

Compensation: In accordance with the Member Expenses and Compensation Scheme policy

The closing date is midnight on 10 December 2023. Candidates shortlisted for interview will be notified on 15 December 2023. Unsuccessful candidates will also be notified on this date.

Interviews will take place on 9 & 12 January 2024
