Role

We are seeking passionate individuals with a commitment to animal welfare to join our team as our Volunteer and Engagement Manager at Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home.

The Home has been a safe haven to stray animals since 1883, and still rescues over a thousand lost or abandoned dogs and cats every year. The Home benefits from skills and experience of our 50+ strong staff, comprised of long-serving kennel and cattery experts and enthusiastic new talent. Our small team is united by the love and dedication towards the animals in our care, and the belief that any dog or cat that comes to our door, whatever the reason, should be safe, warm, and well-fed.

The Volunteer & Engagement Manager will be the driving force behind the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home’s volunteer strategy, promoting, supporting and expanding innovative and effective volunteering initiatives which support the Home’s wider strategy.

They will manage all aspects of the volunteer programme including, recruitment, training and ongoing support and development across the organisation. They will promote, coordinate and develop the Home’s volunteering programme in line with the wider volunteer strategy which involves, managing and supporting the Community Engagement Coordinator and Food Bank Coordinator, liaising and working in partnership with every department across the Home whilst ensuring the expansion and success of the volunteer programme.

Hours: 35 hours per week. Occasional work on evenings or weekends will be required. This will accrue TOIL in line with the Homes Policy. This is a fixed term maternity cover position, expected to start in mid- October and last for up to 12 months. The actual duration will depend on the postholders return date.

Location:Hybrid – We offer hybrid working with the option to discuss flexible and compressed hours. There is an expectation of a minimum of 1 day per week working on site at Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home and home working for the rest of the week. Some travel will be required as part of the job role.
