Do you find yourself wanting more from your role? Wanting to do work that truly makes a difference in people’s lives? If so, maybe it’s time for a change. Maybe it’s time to consider a role where you’ll be helping people at the most difficult time in their lives, truly making a difference to them.
Are you based in the Dundee area and able/keen to travel throughout the East of Scotland? It may be that you live in, or are from the local area, are keen to be based in an office location a short journey from home, and to give back to your community - if that is the case, then this could be the opportunity you have been waiting for!
Asbestos Action is a Dundee based charity, which aims to provide support and guidance to people suffering from asbestos-related lung diseases by offering, and delivering, personalised, tailored practical support. We are a small, but unique charity, that has now been well established for 20 years and provides a vital service to people – with only three asbestos charities in all of Scotland, the importance of the work that we do cannot be overstated.
Owing to our continued growth, we are seeking to employ one permanent part-time (21 hours per week) Support and Benefits Advisor, to ensure that people affected by asbestos-related disease receive relevant help and assistance to secure welfare benefits and appropriate support. In this role, you will provide end to end practical and emotional support, as well as helping complete benefit applications, ensuring all appropriate benefits are applied for, assisting with mandatory reconsiderations, and appeals, where necessary.
Asbestos Action is committed to delivering services that support the management of our clients’ health and wellbeing, ensuring access to high quality services across Scotland. As well as helping clients to access crucial welfare benefits services, you will be responsible for guiding them through one of the most traumatic times in their lives – providing support, empathy and forging close, fulfilling relationships in the process.
In joining the team, you will also have the opportunity to make your mark on the role, as well as the flexibility to get involved in other areas of the charity’s work, providing exciting opportunities for development. Training will be made available for the successful candidate, to enable them to specialise as an advisor for people with asbestos-related disease. If appointed, an enhanced DBS check will be required prior to employment commencing.
We want you to ask yourself…
• Am I an enthusiastic individual with, patience and empathy for others; someone who can take a holistic approach to a client’s circumstances, and signpost or refer to other relevant organisations and agencies for matters when necessary?
• Can I work independently, and as part of a team at a fast pace, whilst remaining calm, professional, and dedicated to helping clients?
• Do I have experience working with individuals, to maximise their income through welfare benefits, possibly by delivering advice within the voluntary sector?
• Am I keen to travel throughout the East of Scotland, visiting new places and getting to meet new people?
If the above resonates, and helping people is important to you, we want you to apply for this post. To do so, please request an application pack from info@asbestosaction.org.uk or by calling 0808 196 1861. The closing date for applications is Friday 31st October 2025.
