Relationships are at the heart of our lives and here at Relationships Scotland Borders, we support people with their relationship difficulties. We understand and know that everyone’s experiences and struggles are unique. We provide a range support, from individual and couples counselling, Child Contact Centres, to mediation services that can all help to support people to find their own solutions and enhance their wellbeing, mental health and happiness.

We deliver our range of services to help and support children and their families across the Scottish Borders. To support this work, we are looking for someone dynamic, enthusiastic and passionate, with a genuine desire to help others.

Within this role the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that our operations and processes run smoothly and to a high standard, with a core focus on excellent customer service.

We are looking for someone that is based in the Scottish Borders, with at least 5 years of previous experience as an administrator. You will be able to demonstrate experience of working remotely, a self-starter that understands the importance of meeting deadlines and managing your workload effectively. You will have excellent administrative and financial experience, be able to handle confidential information, communicate with clients and their families with care and sensitivity, as well as the ability to manage our work with local solicitors and other partners across the Scottish Borders. Home-Start Glasgow North and North Lanarkshire is a growing, vibrant community charity making a big impact on families in the local area. Our trained volunteers and staff help families with young children through challenging times. In Scotland, over 1500 volunteers support over 3500 families and nearly 6500 children each year through compassionate, confidential help to parents when they need us most.

The parents we support are often overwhelmed and isolated. They may be struggling with mental health, illness, disability, multiple birth, poverty, domestic abuse, separation, or trauma. We provide both 1:1 and group support to families in the community and online.

We are now looking to welcome a new Family Support Coordinator to our North Glasgow team who are based in our Glasgow office, Netherton Community Centre, G13 1AX, though there will be travel across all of North Glasgow.

Hybrid working arrangements in place.

The role is initially funded for one year but is expected to continue beyond this, subject to the availability of funding.

Key responsibilities:

• An understanding of the needs of children and families
• Relevant experience of working alongside families, preferably in the voluntary sector
• Good working knowledge of child protection and child development
• Experience of developing and delivering training
• The ability to supervise and support a caseload of families and volunteers
• Good IT skills
• Valid UK driving licence and own car required

The Yard is an award-winning charity that runs adventure play services for children with disabilities and/or additional support needs and their families.

As a Facilities Assistant, you will work with the Office & Facilities Team delivering a wide range of functions, including cleaning, repairs and maintenance services.

You will be a key part of the team, carrying out minor building maintenance and repairs, assisting with cleaning, facilities, premises and office management and providing support to the Operations Team.

Leading the Board:

• Sets the tone for the Board, adopting a culture of integrity, transparency, accountability and good governance. Ensures the Board remains focused on long-term goals aligned to the organisation’s mission and values, and the organisation is well placed to expand when the opportunities are right and navigate the challenges confidently.
• Must ensure the meetings are productive and all members contribute effectively, and decisions are made in a timely and efficient manner. Ability to draw the best from the expertise round the table.
• Provides strategic oversight, working closely with senior management, to deliver the agreed organisation’s Strategic Plan.
• Work with the Board Secretary to plan the Board meetings effectively.
• Relationship with the Senior Management Team / Director
• This is crucial for the prosperity of the organisation. The Chair acts as a mentor/adviser/line manager and manages the performance of the Director. The Chair has the responsibility to embed mutual respect, trust and open communication.

External Representation:

• This involves communicating the organisation’s vision and listening/addressing the concerns and challenges. The Chair must acquire adequate knowledge in relation to Home-Start operational work and strategic objectives to be able to promote and speak on behalf of the organisation when opportunities arise.

Risk & Financial Management:

• Responsibility in overseeing the organisation’s risk management and financial framework. Work closely with the Senior Management Team to ensure that mitigation strategies are in place and monitoring the effectiveness of the strategies. Work with the Board and management to ensure the organisation is prepared to face both anticipated and unforeseen challenges.

Ethical Standards:

• Responsibility to ensure highest ethical standards, a culture of ethical behaviour and ethical decision making and compliance with all relevant laws and regulations. The Chair must lead by example.
• Performance Management:
• The Chair manages the performance of the Director and the individual Trustees to ensure they are fulfilling their responsibilities delivering the organisation’s objectives effectively. The Chair is also responsible for overseeing the work of sub-committees (eg Finance & Audit and Performance Through People).

Succession Planning

• To ensure continuity and stability and help the organisation maintain its momentum and achieve its objectives. The Chair is responsible to identify and develop potential leadership talents within the organisation and plan for eventual transition of key roles, including the Director and Board members.

Conflict Resolution:

• The Chair can be called to mediate conflicts within the Board or between the Board and management. The Chair must have strong interpersonal skills, the ability to remain impartial and a focus on finding solutions that are in the best interest of the organisation.
