Midlothian Wildflowers are excited to offer two freelance sessional youth work opportunities to engage local young
people in climate education and actions, local organic food growing, horticulture, conservation and
environmental arts. The engagement with students will mainly take place within a local high school community
garden setting in Midlothian, but will also involve facilitating sessions in other outdoor locations. The
successful applicants will be part of a unique project opportunity to make a difference in young peoples’ lives
through building positive relationships by engaging with the environment while working and developing networks
and opportunities with our partner organisations and the MWF Board.
Rate of Pay £18 per hour
Working on Fridays - 2.5 Hours Per Week (Term Time)
Start Date Term 1 - April 25th - June 27th. (Times to be confirmed)
Start Date Term 2 - August 15th - 10th October
Start Date Term 3 - 24th October - 19th December
Start Date Term 4 - 6th March 26 - 27th March 26
Total Sessions - 30 @ 2.5 hours
Meetings, Training & Supervision 20 hours per youth worker for year
Total Hours per Youth Worker - 95 hours = £1710.00
The successful applicants will be provided with the necessary resources and support to facilitate creative outdoor
youth programmes. Supervision,team meetings and necessary training will be paid - youth workers will be expected
to attend in person at a suitable location.
The sessions
Youth workers will be paid for 1.5 hours per session with an additional 1 hour of prep time to set up, tidy up and
evaluate the session. There will be development meetings per term to discuss the creation and facilitation of
seasonal programmes. The sessions will take place on Friday afternoons during term time.
Please note: There will be a probationary period of 2 months.
The position is freelance and you will be responsible for your own tax, sick pay and any other leave. There is no
Annual Leave provision.
