Summary

This role will work as part of a team to focus on maintaining and developing Strath Union’s approximately 200 varied societies. This will include working closely with elected students and colleagues in the team to ensure student societies and activities are diverse, inclusive, and accessible.

The role will support student groups with their events and deliver relevant training and workshops to volunteers. This position will also help to deliver and promote key Student Engagement department events and activities, such as welcome weeks and volunteering awards.

The ideal candidate will utilise their skills and experience to provide effective support to Strath Union’s societies and student activities, using initiative and problem solving to continually develop processes and resources. We are looking for someone to support the Parish Minister and ministry team, providing ministry, worship and pastoral care in the parish; with a particular focus on pioneering new forms of worship or fresh expressions of church across the communities of the parish.

The Edinburgh College Board of Management currently seeks to fill three non-executive vacancies before 26 March 2025.

The Board of Management would particularly welcome applications from individuals with experience in at least one of the following areas:

(i) Education and training (across Tertiary Education, schools, and/or other training providers);

(ii) Government Relations and Public Affairs; and/or

(iii) Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs).

Successful applicants will have the ability to contribute to a dynamic board, which deals with a variety of complex and interesting issues and promotes the highest standards of governance. If appointed to the Edinburgh College Board of Management, you will be provided with appropriate induction and training designed to support you to effectively fulfil your role as a Board member.

Applications are also encouraged from groups currently under-represented on Scotland’s public bodies.

Time Commitment: During the first year of appointment, it is anticipated you may need to devote an average of 1.5 days per month.

Remuneration: All Non-Executive roles are non-remunerated. Incidental expenses will be reimbursed.

Appointment details: Appointments to the Board of Management will come into effect anytime from 24 March 2025 onwards, following approval from the Minister for Higher and Further Education.

The appointment will be for a period up to 3 years, with the possibility of re-appointment subject to evidence of effective performance and to satisfying the requirements of the person specification for the role at the time of re-appointment.

Location: Meetings of the Board will normally be held at one of the College’s four campuses: Granton, Sighthill, Milton Road and/or Midlothian.

We are currently seeking a new Treasurer to join our board of trustees and we hope to find someone who has experience of financial management and accountancy. Our current Treasurer will remain on the board until the 31st March 2025. We would like our Board to be representative of our local community. We encourage applications from all sectors of the community.

Role and responsibilities

As well as bearing all the fiduciary duty of a board officer, the Treasurer is the person specifically entrusted with management of the bureau funds. The finance director is also responsible for ensuring that accurate records are maintained and the board is informed of all relevant financial matters.

The tasks associated with this post are:

• liaising with and advising the Chief Executive and Board of trustees on financial matters
• ensuring that proper financial procedures and accounting practice are in place to safeguard the bureau’s resources
• preparing financial statements for board meetings and for the annual general meeting
• liaise with the appointed Independent examiner for the annual review of accounts
• preparing an annual budget and advising the board of its financial requirements for the year ahead
