About the role:

The John Muir Way is one of Scotland’s most iconic long-distance walking routes, spanning 134 miles from Helensburgh on the west coast to Dunbar on the east. The John Muir Way Green Skills program, a three-year initiative funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, will focus on improving biodiversity along this route, creating opportunities for trainees to learn new skills, build confidence, and contribute to Scotland’s natural and cultural heritage.

The John Muir Way Greenskills programme is a 3-year initiative, with 72 trainees engaging in practical biodiversity tasks and projects along the route. The programme aims to bridge the skills gap and ageing workforce challenges, increase connectivity and break down the disconnect with nature, working alongside various partners to achieve its goals.

Each Greenskills Leader will lead a team of six Green Skills Trainees per year, located in Edinburgh, Falkirk, North Lanarkshire and East Dunbartonshire. The post holder will have overall responsibility for line managing the trainees, delivery of practical training and the delivery of practical biodiversity enhancement tasks on partners sites. Each Green Skills Leader will liaise with greenspace teams in Local Authorities and Scottish Canals to agree sites and projects. This role will also contribute to the project evaluation, local budget management, and programme promotion. This role will work closely with the People and admin coordinator managing the schedule of external training, trainee attendance, annual leave, onboarding and programme exiting of trainees. These roles will report into the John Muir Way Greenskills Operations Leader.

Experience of leading a small team.

Previous management of a training programme/structured delivery model.

Mentoring and/or coaching young people.

A passion for supporting young people to achieve their goals.

Knowledge and understanding of practical biodiversity projects and events.

Experience in recruiting and managing trainees and/or other stakeholders.

Experience in working in partnership with multiple organisations with potentially differing demands.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Communications Assistant to support the smooth running of Inspiring Scotland’s communication team. In this role you will provide support across a variety of projects and help deliver purposeful, creative, and engaging communications materials.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone with some experience that is looking to be built upon Support and training can be provided, as most importantly we are looking for someone who is proactive, enthusiastic and team minded. You will have an awareness of communication activity and an interest in being creative and using this skill to help make communications stand out.

In this role you will work alongside the Communications Manager and be line managed by the Senior Communications Officer who are responsible for managing a wide range of activity for Inspiring Scotland. Alongside this team you will be able to work with a wide range of colleagues across the organisation and across policy areas such as equality and human rights, outdoor play, mentoring for children and young people and youth employability.

Role is office-based however you will be able to agree a work pattern which can include working from home. The role will involve travel to attend meetings and occasional events.

About the role

The Head of Policy and Communications leads the full range of SIDA’s policy work: engaging with members and external stakeholders, recognising and acting on opportunities for influence, and leading influencing and communications with key audiences. The jobholder will also be responsible for the organisation’s communications strategy with a focus on encouraging greater interaction with members and raising awareness of global citizenship with the wider public.

The jobholder works with the Chief Executive on policy development, political engagement and organisational strategy development.

They also share with the Chief Executive the role of representing the organisation in the public domain - to the media and in key forums and networks - with a particular focus on driving progress on the UN SDGs, building cross-sectoral partnerships and collaborations, and enhancing policy coherence for sustainable development, including in the context of the climate crisis and delivering a wellbeing economy.
