About the job

The role of an Energy and Income Maximisation Adviser involves offering guidance and support to individuals in need with a particular focus on energy advice as a key element of wraparound holistic support. In response to the increasing need for energy advice, this new role will take an active lead on our energy advice provision. Working collaboratively with colleagues, the post holder will ensure we have utilised every opportunity to provide energy advice and assistance to clients, from energy efficiency to energy related debt. This position is based at Glasgow North West Citizens Advice Bureau in Maryhill, with a requirement for occasional outreachs conducted across the northwest of Glasgow.

Completion of the completion of Citizens Advice Bureau Adviser Training Programme would be advantageous but is not essential as full training will be given.

The post holder will work directly with children and young people with experience of care, in an individual relationship-based advocacy role, and within participation and group activity across our West Central region. This unique role requires you to listen to what children and young people with experience of care say and support them to ensure their rights are upheld and their voices are heard in the processes of making decisions about their lives. You will also help facilitate a broad range of participatory and engagement opportunities and create the conditions for collective advocacy.

The right candidate for this post will be brilliant at forming positive relationships with children and young people. You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, adaptable to a wide range of contexts. You will enjoy working collaboratively with partners. The successful candidate will be joining Who Cares? At Beatson Cancer Charity we support and enhance the treatment, care and wellbeing of current, former and future cancer patients and their families. We work in partnership with the NHS, The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre (BWoSCC) and all related facilities. We also offer the wider community a unique opportunity to contribute to the enhancement of cancer care.

Beatson Cancer Charity’s Living with Uncertainty Service (funded by National Lottery Community Fund) and Bereavement Service (initially funded by the NHS GCC Endowments Fund), support people who are affected by cancer, and their families, to manage the psychological and emotional impact of living with cancer and bereavement. Our team of psychologists and facilitators, work alongside clients to help them improve their understanding of the issues they face and help them live well, in line with their values, and alongside the difficulties they face. This supports them to improve their confidence and enhance their overall resilience.

Role Purpose

As part of a small team, the Facilitator will work under the supervision of a psychologist, to deliver support. This will be delivered within an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and person-centered framework and include, assessment and triage of referrals, delivery of a structured group psycho-educational programme, person centered support and signposting and supported transitions to associated services as appropriate. They will contribute to the development and promotion of the service as a specialist resource across professional and community settings including educational activity across a range of stakeholder groups.

Responsibilities

− Responsible for triage and assessment of new referrals based on accepted psychological frameworks e.g. Psychological Therapies and Support Framework for People Affected by Cancer 2022.

− Undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual clients and refer on as appropriate in response to client need.

− Play an active role in regular referral meetings, including care planning, in order to ensure timely service delivery and support.

− Support the psychologist in the delivery of ACT based group support programmes.

− Provision of level 1 and 2 support/coaching, pre and post group support.

− Communicate appropriate information concerning client’s assessment and on-going support in a skilled and sensitive manner that best meets the needs of clients and referrers.

− Ensure service delivery remains balanced and appropriate through actively managing individuals care and support.

− Liaising and communicating with key stakeholders including delivery of presentations.

− Use TM3 system to maintain up to date records of clinical data e.g. clinical activity, waiting list and outcome measures data.

− Contribute to on-going service evaluation/development via reflective practice, case review, evaluation framework and relevant audit.

Essential Candidate Criteria

− Educated to a degree level or equivalent within a relevant field (Health, Psychology, AHP, Nursing, Social Sciences, Counselling, CBT).

− Experience of providing psychosocial support to people and their families living with a long-term health condition.

− Experience of working as part of a team assessing the needs of individuals and families, planning, and delivering appropriate support.

− Experience of working with people at psychological risk including an understanding of levels of psychological support e.g. CBT, Clinical/Counselling Psychology.

− Experience and strong understanding of validated assessment tools and their use in planning and delivering support.

− Able to travel and be flexible to deliver services/workshops in a range of locations.

Our vibrant and busy service in North West Glasgow provides support to people concerned about their own or someone else's alcohol or drug use. We have a Recovery Hub however much of our work is carried out in the local community. We work with people at all stages on their journey providing both one to one appointments and group work.

Please note that this is a fixed-term contract until 31st March 2025.

Required Skills

To be successful in this role you will:

• have attained SVQ level 3 in Social Services & Healthcare or equivalent
• already be registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) or meet the registration requirements
• have some experience of working in a health, social care, or related setting
• have knowledge and understanding of delivering evidence-based interventions
• have experience of delivering group work, specifically in outreach and community settings
