We have a vacancy for a GIRFEC Support Worker to provide bespoke, individually tailored support packages to young people who have been identified as not engaging or coping with mainstream school.

The successful candidate will:

• Provide a mixture of one to one intervention and group learning to young people, including support in areas such as wellbeing, personal and emotional development and employability
• Support young people to gain employability skills, life skills and accreditation; helping them in to work, apprenticeships, further education or vocational training
• Deliver tailored support packages to young people enabling them to create and realise their career pathways and progress in to post school opportunities

It is essential that candidates have a full, clean driving licence with business insurance and constant use of a car. Membership of the PVG scheme will be an essential requirement of the post. A contributory company pension scheme is offered with a 10% employer contribution.

Notes: You will be required to travel Scotland-wide, with potential overnight stays aware from home with expenses paid.

Includem is looking for Community Youth & Family Support Workers to join our Includem Response Team working in Scotland Central Belt to support children, young people, and families, when they need it most.

You will manage your own caseload ensuring support plans are developed with the young person to respond to their individual needs and supporting them to improve outcomes in line with GIRFEC principles and the organisations model of support.

You will be expected to actively demonstrate leadership and ownership over effective service delivery to young people, by managing their outcomes through use of line managers, colleagues, and organisational tools, processes, policies and procedures.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Build relationships and deliver outcome-based support to young people and families, involving all key stakeholders.
• Explore values and attitudes with young people in a supportive manner.
• Ensure a focus on regular and appropriate case progression to help young people and families recognise progress.
• Actively participate in the delivery of the Helpline evening and night service so support is available 24/7.
• To support with crisis management and generate solutions for young people and families.
• To build relationships with Local Authorities with varying demands and priorities.
• To ensure support is delivered in line with organisations Policies Procedures, SSSC Codes of Practice & National Guidelines.

About you

As a Community Youth & Family Support worker, you will have experience of working with young people and engaging vulnerable young people and families who are likely to have faced challenging life circumstances.

You will also have:

• Experience of effectively engaging vulnerable young people and families.
• Experience of managing caseloads and influencing decision making.
• Experience of responding to difficult circumstances where people may be in crisis or engaged in risk taking behaviour.
• Able to provide emotional, practical and social support to young people and families.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Able to routinely evidence practice, including completion of formal reports.
• Reliable and committed to deliver the relationship-based model of intervention.

A UK driving license is an essential requirement to the role. Ideally it would be if you live in the central belt, but not mandatory.

Community Volunteers Enabling You (COVEY) has operated across Lanarkshire for 32 years supporting 5,000 children, young people and parents/carers to become more resilient, safe and better equipped to reach their full potential. COVEY provides 1-1 and group-based befriending, mentoring and family support.

COVEY is seeking a passionate, professional and proactive individual to provide support to families who are experiencing difficulties or challenges in their everyday lives such as isolation, mental and physical health problems, disability, poverty and trauma. This involves direct work with children, young people, parents/carers and whole families via 1-1 intervention/support and group-based mentoring.

The successful candidate will provide person centred, relationship-based support to children, young people and parents/carers to help them identify and address short-term needs (strengthening confidence, wellbeing and family/community relationships) and support long-term aspirations into positive destinations.

The Citadel has a long history of strong relationships with families in the Leith community.

This includes our Families Project, which provides a range of services to parents/carers of children attending the Citadel, including a weekly Parents Drop In and regular Family Days. In the past six years, the Scottish Government’s Pupil Equity Fund has enabled us to extend our positive relationships with families into local primary schools.

The post holder will be based two days per week in Leith Primary School, where they will provide a range of services for parents/carers, including 1:1 support, themed workshops or groups and family learning. They will be based one and a half days per week at the Citadel, where they will work alongside Families Project colleagues, including co-facilitating the Parents Drop In.

This post has been continuously funded through the Pupil Equity Fund since 2018 and the renewal of funding for the next school year is generally confirmed in April.
