It is a very important time for Cornerstone with our current strategy ‘Future proofing Cornerstone’ coming to an end in 2025 we begin looking ahead, understanding the landscape in which we operate and developing a new strategy which will allow us to continue providing high quality care and support to people with autism, learning disabilities and other support needs across Scotland.

As a member of our Board, you will be instrumental in guiding the strategic future of the charity and ensuring exemplary governance and fiscal control. The main Board meets four times a year and board members will be expected to be a member of one of the sub committees. You will also act as a local ambassador for Cornerstone.

We are keen to hear from those with skills, knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas who feel they can make a positive contribution to our charitable activities: -

Senior management experience in the social work / social care sector preferably with strategic planning skills

Accountancy/financial experience preferably at management level

Personal experience of providing care and support of a relative or carer of a person who has experience of care

Cornerstone is one of Scotland’s largest charities and is a leading provider of social care services to more than 1,200 adults and young people with disabilities and other support needs. We’re unserious people doing serious things. ProjectChange is a small charity created by care experienced people, for care experienced people. We spend a lot of our time answering two things, how can we help people talk and how can we make people listen. For almost five years, we’ve been working with our community, (friendly) challenging systems across Scotland, and creating spaces where everyone feels like they belong.

We believe in the power of care experienced people leading change—and if you do too, you might just belong on our board.

What Do our Trustees Do?

Trustees help steer the charity, keeping it on track and making the big decisions. Here’s what it looks like in practice:

• 4–6 meetings a year, mostly on Zoom, so you can join from your couch.

• A chance to share your ideas and experiences to help shape our future.

• Working with a passionate team to make sure care experienced voices lead the way.

If you’re an experienced trustee, you’ll get the chance to take on something bold and different. If you’ve never done it before, don’t worry—we’ll guide you through and make sure you feel comfortable every step of the way. Whether it’s your first trustee role or your fifteenth, you’ll be part of something meaningful and exciting.

The Astley Ainslie Community Trust is a charity working to achieve community ownership of the Astley Ainslie hospital in Edinburgh, when the NHS vacate the site. We have 750 local members, and a wider community of people interested in the future of the site.

The hospital celebrated its Centenary in 2023. To commemorate this milestone, the AACT are conducting an Oral History project which will collect spoken memories from people with connections to the hospital over the years. Heritage Lottery have awarded funding for this project.

The project will involve recording and collecting 40 oral history accounts from staff, patients, friends and family. The oral histories will be archived with Edinburgh Universities Lothian Health Services Archive. There will also be a small exhibition showcasing a selection of the oral histories in a public space.

We are looking for someone to project manage and lead the execution of this project.

Key service requirements:

Project management

Volunteer management, recruitment and training

Recruitment of subjects for interview

Reviewing, editing of interviews for archives and public facing outputs

Project administration, including regular evaluation and progress reports

Final project report

Leading development of public exhibition

We are looking for a person who will be:

Highly organised with an eye for detail

Friendly and able to communicate effectively with different project stakeholders

Familiar with the requirements of working on a self-employed basis (eg covering own tax and insurance etc).

Comfortable engaging with volunteers and members of the public.

We would expect provision of these services to occupy 80-90 days from January 2025 until the project end date of 25th November 2025, for which we are offering £200 per day based on time invoiced.

Remote and in-person working at multiple locations will be required.

The post will be managed by the Astley Ainslie Community Trust Project Management Committee and Project Director.
