Recruitment of Independent Members to the Board of Management

UHI Perth is currently recruiting for new Independent Board Members to join the governing body charged with overseeing the operation of the College. We would particularly welcome applications from individuals with recent senior-level background in finance, accountancy, corporate governance or change management.

A position on our Board requires commitment to the work of the College and the community, an interest in the post-16 education sector, and effective communication and analytical skills.

Membership is voluntary and unpaid, but brings huge rewards to members - input can make a real difference to the education and prospects of our learners and to the wellbeing and success of the communities where they live. Attendance at meetings of the Board and Committees is required, usually early evening, and reasonable travel costs for Board business are reimbursed.

The Court of the University of Aberdeen is seeking to appoint a new independent member (non-executive director and charity trustee) to fill a vacancy that will arise during the Summer 2024.

The University is now seeking an exceptional individual to fill a vacancy on Court to ensure the continued successful delivery of the University’s priorities and objectives, the setting of its strategic direction and commitment to its values and mission.

Members of the governing body need to have a keen interest in, and empathy for, Higher Education, and be willing to commit their time and expertise to helping the University deliver on its significant ambitions. Applications are invited from individuals with a record of successful leadership within a public, private or third sector organisation, who are passionate about supporting an internationally competitive, research-intensive and diverse University.

Interest would be particularly welcome at this time from individuals with skills and experience in in relation to sustainability and the environment as we seek to fully embed our commitment to net zero and addressing the climate crisis within our financial and strategic planning. Demonstrable expertise in strategic leadership of the implementation of corporate sustainability strategies, green finance, sustainability, or environmental policy leadership would therefore bring particular value to University Court and to the role of independent member.

The post is not remunerated, however reasonable expenses incurred as result of your role will be re-imbursed in line with the University’s expenses policy.

About the Role

The Children and Young People Practitioner will work across Glasgow schools and communities to build the mental health knowledge and skills of children, young people, parents, carers, volunteers and staff through mental health capacity building workshops, training programmes, information sessions and resources.

Delivery will also include individual and group work support to young people who are experiencing low mood and anxiety.

What we are looking for

We are looking for individuals with experience delivering individual support and group work to young people around their mental health and wellbeing. They will also be experienced in workshop facilitation, training delivery and development.

With exceptional communication skills and ability to manage own case load, the Children and Young People Practitioner will work flexibly to deliver the wide range of programmes on offer, whilst ensuring practice is of the highest quality at all times.

A driving licence and access to a car is essential for this post.

The Lucy Faithfull Foundation is a UK-wide charity that exists to prevent child sexual abuse and exploitation. We’re bold, we’re pioneering, we’re growing and we want your help.

Our Edinburgh based team – formerly known as Stop It Now Scotland – covers the whole of the country. Our practitioners have extensive backgrounds in child protection and sex offender rehabilitation. We provide individual and groupwork to around 150 adults and adolescents every year who present a sexual risk of harm to children who cannot access statutory service. We work with around 100 partners, family members and members of wider networks around these individuals. We use what we learn from our work to develop and deliver resources, information and training for professionals and the public, so that they can better protect children from harm and prevent abuse before it happens.

About you and the role

We are recruiting a Fundraising & Partnerships Manager to join our multi-disciplinary team in Edinburgh to lead the delivery of our business development and fundraising strategies, supporting our ambition to increase the volume of specialist support, training and spot purchased assessments we provide for social work, charities and child facing agencies. Working with the director, you will help develop and sustain appropriate strategic partnerships and identify opportunities for development, reviewing resource implications, risk, income potential and likelihood of success.

You will also work closely with our Fundraising Manager, based in our Epsom office, leading on charitable income generation through writing bids that directly apply for funds from a range of bodies. Developing effective and impactful methods to report on the impact of our services and relationship management with funders is a key part of this role.

This exciting role will play a big part in supporting our efforts to shift the discourse about child sexual abuse ‘upstream’ so that professionals and the public understand in practical terms what they can do to prevent sexual abuse before it happens. We believe our work can only build and grow and lead to the better protection of children from harm through developing our partnerships across a range of sectors (education, social work, leisure services, law enforcement, Scottish government, third sector, safeguarding leads in faith and belief communities, business and corporate sectors, etc), The successful candidate will need to be a good communicator who is committed to the concept of child sexual abuse as a preventable public health issue.

Our ideal candidate will be a dynamic professional who is proactive and outcome focused with exceptional communication and relationship skills. We are looking for someone who can develop knowledge of national and local policy and strategy within the external environment to inform business development, influence potential commissioners and where appropriate, co-design services with agencies. An understanding of tendering and public contracts will be an advantage.
