Role
Scotland’s membership organisation and sector support body for the performing arts is seeking to recruit a passionate, skilled and dedicated new staff team, including an Advocacy Lead.
This is a time of immense challenge, change, renewal, and opportunity. Working with FST, you’ll play a vital role in the future of this essential part of the cultural sector, as we support and champion the performing arts.
The Advocacy Lead will have a background in one or more of the following: public affairs, advocacy, public relations, communications, or Government affairs. Working closely with the Chief Executive Officer, they will develop and implement a comprehensive advocacy plan to raise the profile of Scottish theatre, dance, and opera, ensure the needs of the sector are effectively communicated to decision-makers, and drive the progression of the plan to have a demonstrable and positive impact on the sector’s visibility, value, and resources.
They will work across five key areas:
- Research and policy development
- Stakeholder and member engagement
- Advocacy planning and activity
- Strategy development and implementation
- External communications

Museums Galleries Scotland (MGS) is the National Development Body for Scotland’s museums and galleries. We support a sector of 449 museums and galleries, through strategic investment, workforce development, advice and advocacy. We are seeking an experienced professional to lead our work to clearly communicate the positive value and impact of the museums and galleries sector. You will do this by developing and leading advocacy campaigns and activity that make a strong case for Scotland’s museums and galleries sector to influence a range of external audiences and stakeholders including Government Officials, Government Ministers, MSPs, relevant Committees, relevant funders and other key organisations and influencers.
Politically astute, the Senior Advocacy and Public Affairs Manager possesses strong communication and influencing skills, using research and information to build a political and public case for our sector and inform evidence-based advocacy messaging and activity.
Being able to navigate and effectively communicate complex issues that implicate the wider culture and heritage sector in Scotland will be essential. MGS has worked to raise awareness of the budget challenges faced by our sector while also striving to adapt to ensure relevance to communities and users. An exciting new capacity programme with the Scottish Government is in development designed to transition the sector to a sustainable footing and you would play an instrumental role in shaping how we communicate the benefits of this programme to key stakeholders.

Scotland’s membership organisation and sector support body for the performing arts is looking for a new Chief Executive Officer. We are seeking a visionary and collaborative individual to lead FSTas our new CEO. You will be passionate about the transformational power of the arts and will be keen to play a significant role in futureproofing and promoting Scotland’s performing arts sector with a wide range of stakeholders. You will be an experienced communicator and someone who can make a compelling case for the impact of the arts and its importance to the world today. You will be comfortable engaging with a variety of stakeholders including individual artists and practitioners and organisations both large and small across theatre, dance and opera.
The CEO is responsible for:
- Developing and leading the strategic, financial and operational delivery of FST’s work across advocacy, strategy, and sector support.
- Ensuring the needs and priorities of the Scottish performing arts sector are effectively conveyed to decision-makers, policy developers and legislators in Scotland and across the UK.
- Raising the profile of Scottish performing arts through lobbying, increasing awareness and access.
- Leading the team and overseeing the delivery of our programmes which develop best practice and increase the potential of performing arts in Scotland.
- Developing and managing strategic relationships to support the sector within and beyond FST’s membership and across the wider public realm in Scotland, the UK, and internationally.
Development Manager (Maternity Cover)

Within the Development Manager (Maternity Cover) role, you will make an essential contribution to the development and sustainability of the organisation. This is an exciting time to join the Stills team, as we continue to develop our work and plan for Stills’ 50th anniversary in 2027.
You will also have the opportunity to bring your own skills to the role, supporting Stills’ financial sustainability and in-line with our vision and ethos. Within the Development Manager (Maternity Cover) role, you will work closely with the Director and be responsible for:
- Ensuring compliance with fundraising codes of ethics and practice.
- Generating income for Stills from a number of key fundraising sources including Trusts and Foundations, individual giving and corporate sponsorship.
- Identifying strategic opportunities for future fundraising and income generation.
Outline of key duties:
- Fundraising Management: to identify new fundraising opportunities and write funding proposals.
- Relationship Management: to ensure donors, supporters and partners are kept up-to- date and communicated with in a timely manner, while also ensuring they are credited appropriately across Stills’ marketing and communications.
- Fundraising Admin: to manage ongoing fundraising projects, keep track of timelines and lead on fundraising target management.
- Venue Hire: to respond to enquiries, manage agreements and oversee hires.
- Trusts & Foundations: to ensure new contracts are filed, relationships are managed, reports are completed in a timely manner and re-applications are submitted where appropriate.
- Individual Giving: to maintain and manage Stills’ Friends Scheme, Gift Aid forms and Patrons Scheme.
- Sponsorship: to arrange in-kind sponsorship activity with current sponsors where required.
- Photobooth: to manage partnership requests and respond to customer enquiries.
- Events: to assist with Stills public programme of events and work across the team to keep VIP mailing lists up-to-date.

Primary Purpose
This is a new role within a refreshed Starcatchers Staff Team for 2025/26 and beyond. The post-holder will be pivotal in the development of our Community Engagement activity leading on the implementation of this work, supporting the specialist Starcatchers Artists who lead on delivery, nurturing existing and seeding new relationships within communities and securing funding to sustain activity moving forward.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Community Engagement
- To lead on the development and delivery of all Starcatchers' Community Engagement activity including current programmes
- Seed new activities in line with organisational priorities
- To ensure the implementation of a continuous improvement framework within the team
- To ensure the principles of Starcatchers Voice of the Baby research are embedded and reflected in artistic practice
- To ensure the participation of the babies, young children, parents and carers who engage in Starcatchers activity is evident in all aspects of service delivery
- To develop and maintain relationships with partners to support the delivery andpotential future development of project activity
- To oversee the implementation of research and evaluation surveys across all Community Engagement activity and provide feedback and figures for reporting,evaluation and development purposes
- To manage the Community Engagement budgets and ensure delegated budgets operate within organisational monitoring and reporting arrangements.
- To regularly attend Community Engagement sessions and provide support to delivery staff
- To ensure the Health & Safety policy is implemented in accordance with best practice and all activity is planned to include risk-assessment and compliance with Health and Safety and event management regulations
- To ensure the effective implementation of Starcatchers policies and procedures
- To provide line management support to the Community Engagement Artists
Fundraising
- To identify and apply for funding for Community Engagement programmes, both existing and new initiatives
- To support or lead on reporting to funders as required
General
- To play an active role in the strategic development of Starcatchers as a member of the Management Team
- To fully participate in company meetings and events as required
- To contribute to the on-going fundraising of the organisation as required
