Role
Scotland’s membership organisation and sector support body for the performing arts is seeking to recruit a passionate, skilled and dedicated new staff team, including an Advocacy Lead.
This is a time of immense challenge, change, renewal, and opportunity. Working with FST, you’ll play a vital role in the future of this essential part of the cultural sector, as we support and champion the performing arts.
The Advocacy Lead will have a background in one or more of the following: public affairs, advocacy, public relations, communications, or Government affairs. Working closely with the Chief Executive Officer, they will develop and implement a comprehensive advocacy plan to raise the profile of Scottish theatre, dance, and opera, ensure the needs of the sector are effectively communicated to decision-makers, and drive the progression of the plan to have a demonstrable and positive impact on the sector’s visibility, value, and resources.
They will work across five key areas:
- Research and policy development
- Stakeholder and member engagement
- Advocacy planning and activity
- Strategy development and implementation
- External communications

Financial Controller (Fixed Term)

As part of the Leadership Team, the Financial Controller will lead the finance function during the period of the Head of Finance’s maternity leave. The group of companies comprises a charity and a subsidiary trading company.
The Financial Controller reports to the Interim Director of Finance and is responsible for the Finance & Payroll Officer.
This contract will be for a fixed term of two (2) years. The role will allow for hybrid working, with a minimum of three days being office based.
The Financial Controller will be working closely with the Interim Director of Finance, the role of Financial Controller assumes responsibility for the day-to-day financial management of the organisation.
Additional Requirements:The post holder will be subject to a Disclosure Scotland check.
Location:Hybrid home and office working. Minimum 2 days per week in the office. ECCAN’s offices are at 14 Forth Street, Edinburgh EH1 3LH, approximately 10mins walk from Waverley rail station.

JOB PURPOSE
The role of Edinburgh Communities Climate Action Network (ECCAN) Community Climate Co-ordinator will be to contribute towards the delivery of ECCAN’s key outcomes and outputs as listed below (Main Objectives of the Hub 2024-25). The post-holder will support community groups throughout Edinburgh to collaborate, network, and assist community groups in the design, development, and delivery of community-led climate action projects.
- ECCAN is in the process of launching themed sub-networks in Edinburgh and the role of the CCC will be to establish, enhance, and manage these networks in Year 1 of the post.
- ECCAN will deliver the Climate Ready South-East Scotland climate risk assessment for SNIFFER in 2024 -25 with the CCC role delivering the community-facing element of this delivery until January 2025.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support communities and community-based organisations in Edinburgh to deliver sustainable community-led climate action projects.
- Support the development of the sub-networks through attendance at events, hosting networking events both online and in person, and working within existing climate action network structures.
- Connect with a range of stakeholders and community-based networks on the benefits of community climate action, in conjunction with the Members & Events Lead.
- Assist groups throughout Edinburgh on the design, development, and delivery of projects by offering advice and support including funding applications to project planning.
- Support organisations to build their knowledge, skills, and capacity to address the climate emergency.
- Support the Members & Events Lead on a range of community climate action events.
- Support groups and communities to access a range of funding for climate action projects.
- Prepare literature and online content on the work of the Hub.
- Under the guidance of the Members & Events Lead, undertake Comms and PR work as outlined in the ECCAN Communication Strategy - including online content such as social media.
- Any other task as needed to fulfil the core aims of the Hub.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Edinburgh Communities Climate Action Network is Edinburgh’s Climate Hub, The Hub is fully funded by the Scottish Government and one of a network of twentytwo Climate Action Hubs established across Scotland to offer networking,
support, and encouragement of co-ordinated community-led climate action.
The Hub has been operating since March 2024 and is a membership organisation supporting diverse communities, community groups and individuals throughout Edinburgh.
The vision of the overall Hub Programme defined by Scottish Government is -
‘a network of climate action hubs providing a vehicle for communities to come together and engage in collective
climate action, supporting the just transition to net zero and climate resilient living, and driving wider change.’
Main Objectives of the Hub 2024-25
- Local communities have the confidence and capacity to respond to the climate emergency. Local communities have the knowledge to respond to the climate emergency.
- Local communities have the skills to respond to the climate emergency.
- Local communities are making use of relevant climate emergency information and data.
- Broad collaboration and networking, ensuring the engagement is representative of the local community.
- Additional/strengthened partnerships, networks and collaborations are facilitated.
- Diverse and representative local communities are engaged in climate action, facilitated by the Hub including the targeting of previously unengaged communities.
- Increased community-level mitigation or adaptation/climate resilient actions.
- Local communities are supported by the Hub to implement climate mitigation, adaptation, or biodiversity actions.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
- Knowledge of climate change and the challenges that this poses to communities throughout Scotland.
- Experience in a community development role.
- Experience and knowledge of the structures that exist at community level across the third sector and the local authority.
- Extensive experience working with third sector and community groups.
- Strong digital communication skills including Office 365, Canva, WordPress, etc.

- A strong team player with a pro-active attitude.
- Good organisational skills.
- Good attention to detail and accurate record keeping.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills .
- Passionate about climate change, biodiversity, climate justice and the empowerment and the power of communities.
Qualifications
A degree in a related subject relevant to climate would be desirable however evidence of work experience in the community sector will be given equal weighting.

Scottish Women’s Aid has an exciting opportunity to Head up their policy team. This is an influential and dynamic position, where the role holder will be responsible for leading on a diverse range of policy areas and levers for change to end domestic abuse and violence against women and girls in Scotland. They will be a key member of the Senior leadership team and will support and manage a team of policy officers, identify, shape an develop policy priorities, and SWA’s campaigning an advocacy work in line with our strategic objectives. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, the Head of Policy shares responsibility for the leadership of the organisation and the management of people, services and resources. They will also work closely with the Membership, Training and Communications teams.
Background
Scottish Women’s Aid is the lead organisation in Scotland working to end domestic abuse. We are both a children's rights and a women's rights organisation.
- We directly campaign to institutions and leaders for policies and laws that address the drivers of women’s inequality and improve responses to domestic abuse. This work makes women and children safer and helps them disentangle themselves from their abusers.
- We provide training to public and private bodies from the police and judiciary to child welfare systems, to effectively respond to survivors.
- We raise the profile of domestic abuse nationally and internationally so that domestic abuse is treated like the critical threat to human rights that it is.
- We host Scotland’s 24-Hour Domestic Abuse and Forced Marriage Helpline to ensure help is always available while actively supporting a network of 33 specialist local Women’s Aid services that directly support and provide refuge to women and children of Scotland affected by domestic abuse
- We are the umbrella organisation for 33 autonomous Women’s Aid groups delivering direct services to women, children and young people across Scotland.
What you’ll do
Working with the Chief Executive, Policy and other teams within SWA, you will develop and implement strategies to achieve key objectives on policy social change. You will provide leadership and line management to the Policy Team to ensure that SWA achieves its strategic objectives. You will collaborate on and direct work including but not limited to; analysis and challenge of government and public policy reports, development of consultation responses, parliamentary briefings, and policy and advocacy materials for a range of audiences. You will build strong relationships and work collaboratively with government officials, other organisations and charities to influence and promote SWA policy and objectives, representing SWA well to target audiences, including government and Parliamentary liaison where you will speak at public events, committees and give evidence.
What We Need
We’re looking for someone who has:
- Experience in a similar role, with strong leadership skills working across a range of complex issues to develop and deliver effective policy and strategy.
- Awareness and understanding of the feminist analysis of domestic abuse and the impact on women, children and young people
- Knowledge and understanding of the UK and Scottish policy and legislative context in relation to violence against women and children and domestic abuse in Scotland, and the environment in which SWA operates, including the opportunities and risks it faces.
- Experience of leading, supporting and managing teams and of providing line management of staff, including the supervision and quality assurance of policy work.
- Excellent written skills, demonstrable track record of leading research, analysis and development of government public policy reports, consultation responses, briefings and advocacy materials
- Communications experience, you’ll be skilled in the ability to engage confidently with a range of different audiences, building maintaining alliances with key stakeholders and speaking with government minsters, MP’s/MSP’s, to committees and at events.
