Up2Us is seeking a confident, energetic and visionary Chief Executive Officer to lead our organisation into its next phase of growth and impact.
With fourteen years of experience in delivering residential childcare and community prevention projects across the West of Scotland, we play an important role in implementing the Promise and Getting it Right for Every Child. Up2Us works with partners in social work, education, health, housing, the police, prisons, legal services and other voluntary organisations to support children and young people affected by childhood trauma. With a staff team of forty-seven, three owned residential houses and a community team working from Dumbarton to Cumbernauld you should be approachable and accessible to staff, able to step up or step down as the situation demands
About the role
As our CEO, you will be responsible for the overall strategic, tactical, and operational leadership of the organisation. You will work closely with the Board of Directors, our staff, and stakeholders to further our vision, deliver our mission and improve outcomes for children and young people who have experienced trauma. This role requires a well-connected, forward-thinking leader with a proven track record of high performance in children’s social work or a related field. You must be an exceptional, and open-minded leader with strategic planning, organisational management and creative thinking skills.

Job Purpose
Being a Trustee is both rewarding and challenging! Our Trustees play a key role in making sure that Up2Us stays true to its mission and values by serving the interests of our young people and families to achieve better life chances, better life experiences and better wellbeing.
It is an exciting time to work with Up2Us as we endeavour to expand our free “Time for Change” project which supports young women, caught up in the Criminal Justice System. We also plan to proceed with building a therapeutic centre named by our young people as “The Ace Space,”. The first Trauma Centre in Scotland will combine a full range of therapeutic, life, leisure, learning, and work skills for young people from one central hub.
As a member of the Up2Us Board you will:

- receive reports from the Chief Executive and other staff on Up2Us operations and finances, to inform decision making and make sure that all statutory and legal requirements for Up2Us are met.

We are looking for a Health and Social Care professional with line management experience to lead our Greater Glasgow & Clyde Specialist Service, part of our nationwide network providing care management, specialist assessment and emotional support to individuals and families.
In addition to managing your own client case load, you will line manage a team of HD Specialists and an Admin/Resource Worker, ensuring the right supervision, support and development opportunities are in place.
The role involves working closely with the HD Clinical Lead (a Senior NHS employed doctor such as psychiatrist, neurologist or geneticist) in addition to our Services Team Lead and the Deputy Chief Executive/Head of Services to manage and develop the service.
Working in partnership with local Health and Social Care teams, you will also provide advice, training and education to professionals and voluntary agencies involved in all aspects of Huntington’s disease care in Greater Glasgow & Clyde.
The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and motivated to have a positive influence on the quality of life of the individuals and families they support. This role is open to medical and health and social care staff from backgrounds such as nursing, allied health, social work and medicine. Professional body membership is essential. Previous experience of Huntington’s disease is advantageous but not essential as full training will be provided.
You should be able to work autonomously in this challenging and rewarding position. Good listening, communication and interpersonal skills are vital, as are excellent time keeping and caseload management abilities. Community-based practice knowledge, a driving licence and use of a car is also essential. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced disclosure check.

Scottish Huntington’s Association is the only charity in the country exclusively dedicated to providing expert and personalised support for those impacted by Huntington’s disease.
Our support reduces unnecessary hospital admissions; supports carers and other family members; lowers household poverty; and alleviates wellbeing risks to children and young people living in Huntington’s families.
We are commissioned by NHS Boards and Health and Social Care Partnerships throughout the country to share our expertise with front line staff and build support for improved services and higher standards of care for every family impacted by this devastating disease.
About Huntington’s disease
Huntington’s disease is caused by an inherited faulty gene that damages the brain over time. People with the disease can eventually lose the ability to walk, talk, eat, drink and care for themselves, requiring specialist support from those who understand the condition.
The disease is genetic, meaning it is passed down from one generation to the next. It therefore impacts entire families over generations rather than individuals alone. Anyone with a parent who has Huntington’s has a 50% risk of inheriting the condition from them.
Around 800 people in Scotland are living with the symptoms of Huntington’s disease right now. A further 3,200 are estimated to be at risk of developing Huntington’s disease as a result of inheriting the faulty gene.
At Scottish Huntington’s Association we are entering the second year of Standing Tall: A Strategy For Growth 2023 – 28, designed to transform the care and support of Huntington’s families. The launch of our strategy followed two years of expansion in specialist teams, increased funding, a rise in media engagement, and growth in parliamentary support for our work.

We are recruiting for a Support Worker to join our Visiting Housing Support programme at Leith Walk in Edinburgh.
Our Edinburgh Visiting Housing Support programme provides support to people aged 16+ that are transitioning from a period of homelessness to longer term accommodation. The team also provides support to those at risk of becoming homeless.
The role of Support Worker is to assist the people we support in their transition from temporary accommodation to permanent housing. The post holder will provide advice on a range of subjects including housing and welfare benefits as well as supporting people to integrate into their local community.

Main duties and responsibilities include:
- Arranging and facilitating key work meetings to develop and review support plans in collaboration with the people we support to meet their individual needs
- Developing life skills with the people we support including how to maximise income, budgeting, shopping, cooking, home maintenance & repair and any other skills that aid to independence.
- Assisting the people we support in their transition from temporary accommodation to permanent housing.
- Providing advice on a range of subjects including housing options and welfare benefits.
- Assisting the people we support to engage and integrate into the local community and become active citizens
- Compiling and reviewing keeping yourself safe plans of those we support.
- Promoting involvement in the improvement and development of the programme by the people we support.
- Provide the required support with focus on ‘customer service’ and a People First person centred approach to the people we support providing a culture where the people we support are treated with compassion and unconditional positive regard
- Develop good communication skills and working relationships with those we support, colleagues and other professionals
- Advocate on behalf of the people we support
- Support the people to be part of their local community
What we expect from you

We’re looking for you to ideally have gained relevant experience from a similar role supporting vulnerable people, to have knowledge of housing and other benefits and to have good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise when managing your own caseload.
We also need you to be qualified to SVQ Level 3 in Social Services and Healthcare or SCQF equivalent or be willing to work towards this.
What you can expect from us
We value our staff as our greatest asset and will provide the following working conditions:
- The post holder will report to the Senior Support Worker.
- Your normal working hours are an average of 35 per week. These hours are usually worked Monday to Friday, and flexibly between the hours of 8.00am to 6.00pm, with core hours over the period from 10am to 4pm with one-hour unpaid. Variations to these hours must be agreed with your line manager.
- Your usual place of work will be 26 Leith Walk, Edinburgh, EH6 5AA
- You are also required to work in the local community and you will be paid travel expenses between your usual place of work and appointments undertaken in the course of your duties. Alternatively, you may choose to work remotely from your home address where appropriate. Working arrangements are in agreement with your line manager based on the needs of the service.
- Annual leave entitlement of 210 hours holiday (equivalent to 6 weeks) pro rata per year in the first year rising to 280 hours (equivalent to 8 weeks) pro rata per year in the second. This includes public holidays.
- You will be automatically enrolled into the People’s Pension in the month that you will complete 3-months of employment, provided you meet the auto-enrolment criteria.
