Newbattle Abbey College is Scotland’s life-changing adult education college, offering extensive support to adults and young people at points of transition. The college also plays a national role in the strategic development of adult learning in partnership with a range of agencies.

Set within an historic 16th century building and 125 acres of ancient woodland and parkland in Midlothian, a few miles from Edinburgh, the College is a registered charity and was established under a Governing Deed of Trust, the Trustees of which have historically included the Principals and Vice Chancellors of Scotland’s ancient universities.

Due to an increased focus on generating income to support its vision and purpose, a new post of Business Development Manager was created to drive further growth in the college’s commercial activity.

The successful candidate will be responsible for increasing income from a range of activities and identifying and successfully implementing new income streams. You will have demonstrable experience of setting and achieving growth income targets, developing successful marketing strategies and maintaining effective external relationships. You will be highly adaptable and enjoy working as part of a small team to find creative solutions and achieve goals.

Reporting directly to the Director of Operations, and working closely with the Principal and Depute Principal, you will play a full part in the strategic leadership and direction of the college. You will also have an outward-facing role, supporting our commercial and other strategic partnerships.

This is an exciting opportunity for a flexible and collaborative mental health professional to join the University’s Counselling & Wellbeing Service in the role of Wellbeing Officer on a permanent basis.

In this role you will act as first point of contact for students approaching the Counselling and Wellbeing Service and play a key role in providing holistic support to enhance the student experience.

You will review student referrals coming into the service, assessing students’ needs, and responding appropriately. This may include referring students to alternative appropriate internal services (such as Disability Services, Financial Aid etc.) and / or referring to wellbeing or therapy sessions within Counselling & Wellbeing.

With significant experience in assessing and managing risk, you will be confident in supporting students with a variety of presenting issues. You will be responsible for safety planning, contacting GPs and liaising with colleagues in our Campus Security and Safeguarding Teams to ensure the appropriate welfare provision as required.

In addition, you will provide face to face and online brief interventions and be involved in the development and delivery of engaging workshops and information sessions on a range of topics including managing change, building connection, overcoming procrastination, developing self-care skills, building resilience, confidence and self-esteem.

The Court of Queen Margaret University is looking to appoint up to two new independent (Lay) members to start in October 2024.

• Submitting competitive tender bids, and demonstrating continual post-tender learning and improvement; and
• Delivering a reliable stream of non-contract fundraised income, including through successful grant applications and enjoyable community fundraising.

What we are looking for

In our eyes, the best Operations Managers are creative, tech-savvy, results-driven, positive, and self-motivated team players.

We expect that you will have significant experience of line management, communications and marketing, social media management, various fundraising approaches, contract administration, competitive tendering and the wider social care policy landscape in Scotland. Experience within social care is beneficial, but not essential. Travel throughout Scotland is required.
