Aberlour Options Lothian offers a range of short break services to children and young people with complex needs. We offer a safe, homely environment for a child to come and stay for a short break that gives their families a rest from their caring role. During that break, children enjoy a range of fun activities and experiences with our staff. Our service is very much a ‘home from home’ for the children who stay with us. We are within easy commuting distance of Edinburgh, Midlothian and East Lothian with access via the number 26, 111 and 124 bus routes.

What we are looking for....

As part of a small team, you will ensure that the highest level of physical and emotional care is provided to the children and young people. Experience in this type of work is preferred however we will consider all applications. The requirement is to work mainly weekends with occasional week nights, depending on the needs of our young people. Weekends can include sleepovers and wakened night shifts.

Our Residential Support Workers create a safe and supportive environment for children and young people to grow and develop. About the service

Castlelaw Cottage is dedicated to providing a nurturing environment for a young girl with a learning disability and ASD. Our newly renovated house is designed to support her in having a fulfilling and active life, both within her home and in the wider community. We understand and appreciate her unique personality and strive to create a space where she can thrive and be supported with her individual needs.

Our young person loves the outdoors and especially enjoys local walks in the woods, regardless of the weather! In the house a range of activities will be planned to provide engagement, physical activity and to meet sensory needs. She loves regular visits from her mother and father that may include going for walks and eating out.

We believe by allowing staff to choose between single or double shifts allows more flexibility and we have a variation of shift patterns on offer to provide you with a great work-life balance!

How you'll help to create brighter futures

Our Residential Support Worker's are creative and innovative in their approach to support in making positive choices and achieving personal goals. Some other key responsibilities are;

• Providing lead case/care planning management, including assessing, reviewing and managing risk.
• Co-ordinating responsibilities within the service, with multi agency and producing family information, including analysis and written reports.
• Attending professional meetings including reviews, court work etc.
• Helping young people in all aspects of their daily lives.
• Having good communication skills and the ability to engage well with both young people, colleagues and other professionals.

Are you resilient and have a positive approach to change and challenge? We're looking for someone with a ‘can do' attitude to join our team. Ideally you'll have:

• Demonstrable experience of working in a care setting and developing positive relationships through trust.
• Application of a range of techniques to co-ordinate and communicate with service users and their families.
• Demonstrate a solution focused approach to address problems, individually and in a team setting.
• Demonstrate emotional resilience to respond to the challenging nature of the role.
• Possess a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or recognised equivalent) or if you do not possess this you must be prepared to complete this within 2 years of commencing employment with us, full support will be provided.

Home-Start Clackmannanshire is a long standing, dynamic charity, striving to ensure every young child (under 12) has the best possible start in life locally. Raising a family has never been easy; our trained volunteers and staff are there to support families through challenging times. In Scotland, Home-Starts have over 1,500 volunteers supporting over 3,500 families and 6,500 children each year through compassionate, confidential help to parents/carers when they need us most. The parents/carers we support are often overwhelmed and isolated. They may be struggling with mental health, illness, disability, multiple births, poverty, domestic abuse, separation and/or trauma. We provide a bespoke support package of 1:1 and group services for families, helping them to cope with the stresses and strains of daily life and encourage them to build the skills, confidence, and strength they need to nurture their children for years to come.

We are looking to welcome a new Family Support Coordinator to our team to allow us to meet the growing need for our services locally. This is a fixed term contract, with potential of extension.

Purpose of the job

Our Family Support Coordinators are central to the support services we offer our local families. As a Family Support Coordinator, you, along with our other three Coordinators will be the first point of contact for a referred family, engaging them through initial visit, providing information, and helping them to shape their package of support. You will provide direct support to families on a 1:1 basis, whilst also recruiting, training, and supporting our team of home-visiting volunteers.

You will also:

• Contribute to the effective day to day operation of the scheme in accordance with the Home-Start Memorandum & Articles of Association, Home-Start, Standards & Methods of Practice, Home-Start Agreement and Quality Assurance Standards.
• To maintain high standards of practice in supporting families within the Home-Start model.
• To ensure equality of opportunity, fairness and diversity in all aspects of the scheme’s work.
• Implement good safeguarding practice in all areas of work.

As a Learning & Events Coordinator you will have key role in the successful design, delivery and evaluation of the Children in Scotland Learning Programme. This includes jointly creating a sector-leading, innovative and financially sustainable programme that supports and connects the children’s sector workforce.

As a Learning & Events Coordinator you will take a lead on the logistics of the delivery of the programme, ensuring that everyone has a good learning experience that is in alignment with Children in Scotland’s values and approach to accessibility.
