Role

Dundee Bairns is a local children’s charity started in 2017 to tackle food inequality for children during the school holiday periods through it’s Fun and Food Programme, which currently delivers around 3,000 meals weekly to many different school and community groups during this time. Since inception, the charity has grown considerably to meet basic need for children, including more programmes such as Tea Clubs, Cooking Clubs, the Cosy Bairns clothing project, Bairns at Home Multibank and the partnership project, Beds for Bairns.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a background in food and nutrition to help accentuate Dundee Bairns food projects over the next three years. This role will focus on the development of a Dundee Bairns Healthy Eating programme (Healthy Bairns) which will primarily run through our Tea Club provision, as well as beside our Fun and Food and Cooking programmes.

The role has a focus on working alongside school workers and community support workers to enhance food provision by helping to tackle issues around poverty and access to healthy food through education around healthy eating, budget cooking skills, and liaising with partners such as NHS Tayside to work alongside the delivery of Best Foot Forward and other healthy eating programmes.

This is a new role in Dundee Bairns, funded by the Whole Family Wellbeing Fund and there is real scope to work with a variety of partners and to help gather evidence on children and young people’s barriers to eating healthily, as well as working to support targeted groups within the defined poverty priority indicator groups.
