West Calder & Harburn Community Development Trust is a community owned charitable company founded in 2013 and based in West Lothian. We deliver a range of local initiatives and projects identified and led by our community itself which include a Community Woods & Garden, a community café and shop, local events and a wellbeing support project.

We are currently a team of 10 staff who with volunteers, strive to improve the community around us via strategically designed services and initiatives which are effective in providing jobs, activities and local amenities to help improve and drive growth in the local area.

The Trust has been successful in raising the funding to develop a local landmark building to become a national class heritage attraction – The Scottish Co-operative Discovery Centre - that also helps deliver a range of local development priorities. The main capital works element of the project is one of several interlinked strands that include the exhibition, a shop, café and bistro, event and catering and an education and training programme.

The project will redevelop a derelict Victorian/Edwardian brick building of about 1200 square metres in a sympathetic manner to house the discovery centre. The building design has been developed by a design team led by Collective Architecture Ltd, has secured planning permission and is in the process of submitting for Building Warrant and commencing a two-stage traditional tender process for a main contractor with works hoped to commence later in 2024.

The project is funded by a range of funders that include The National Lottery Heritage Fund, The Scottish Government Regeneration Capital Grant Fund, Historic Environment Scotland and The UK Government Community Ownership and we are looking for a project manager to manage the capital works aspect of this project.

Job Purpose

We are seeking a highly motivated, dedicated and experienced individual to fill the role of Project Manager during the Delivery Phase of our new Scottish Co-operative Discovery Centre. The ideal candidate will be highly organised with proven experience in capital projects and in the not-for-profit sector. They will work collaboratively within a small, dedicated team led by our Project Director and be proficient in delivering multiple tasks on budget and within deadline and exhibit the drive to ensure project success and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

We are seeking two experienced Managers, with knowledge of current challenges and opportunities for rural communities and the environment, a passion for tackling the climate and biodiversity crises, and the ability to develop and deliver a portfolio of diverse projects in partnership with communities, land owners and managers, other NGOs and statutory agencies.

We are a community-owned non-profit shop and cafe, run mainly by volunteers and managed by a volunteer management committee. Our mission is to bring the community together, promote sustainable living and encourage healthy eating for all.

We are looking for a Retail Manager to keep our shop running smoothly and help us to grow. You will be responsible for all stock ordering and management (with the exception of fresh fruit and vegetables), including managing and cleaning our refillery, all stock taking, tracking product sales and minimising waste, as well as sourcing new product lines and suppliers. You will liaise with our cafe team to order their supplies. You will work with all your colleagues to promote the Storehouse and our products, and assist with event organisation. The Storehouse has a lot of potential for growth and new ventures, and you will be a key part of the team achieving this future development.

We have a wonderful team of volunteers from a huge variety of backgrounds, with a wide range of skills and abilities. You will work with your colleagues to supervise, train and support our volunteers. You will report to the Management Committee via the Staff Liaison.

You will need to be organised and enthusiastic, with great attention to detail, and work well as part of a team. You will need to be committed to our ethos of supplying great quality, sustainable and ethical groceries to our community. You will need to be able to work flexibly with other staff to cover absences and annual leave.

• Tracking products sales, retiring products and introducing new lines as appropriate
• Supervising volunteers on duty

Community Energy Scotland is looking to recruit an energetic individual who shares CES’ values to be part of a team delivering and providing support on the technical elements of projects.

Working as part of a technical team in CES to provide practical & technical support for community energy project development across a portfolio of innovative projects and research activities on areas including renewable electricity generation, low carbon heat, sustainable transport, smart energy systems and building fabric improvements.
