Role

Accountability: Accountable to the Chief Executive Officer

The NHS Retirement Fellowship is a registered charity No. 287936 which exists for people who have worked in or for health and social care services.

We offer social, leisure and educational activities and welfare support to our members. We facilitate continued and new friendships, largely focused on local branches across the UK, with national support and events, including a hugely popular national conference.

We have a clear ambition to build our membership, anticipating their needs and developing new ways of meeting them.

We are seeking a Fellowship Support Officer to deliver that ambition in Scotland and to meet the aspirations of our members.

The successful candidate should reside in Scotland, have an understanding of the Scottish Health System, a driving licence and an NHS background. They should be able to communicate with Health Boards and the Scottish Government.

Key Tasks

  • To increase membership from the health and social care sector.
  • To encourage and support the opening of new branches.
  • To attend NHSRF Scottish Federation meetings, ensuring strong and active links with the Scottish Federation Executive and Scottish Branches.
  • To extend the influence and enhance the profile of the NHS Retirement Fellowship developing good working relationships with key personnel in NHS Health Boards.
  • To build good working relationships with NHS Organisations.
  • To produce reports on activity and future plans as required by the Scottish Government and the Chief Executive and trustees of the charity.
  • To communicate and liaise with Honorary Officers, Trustees and Regional Representatives the Chief Executive, and all members of the NHSRF staff team and Central Office staff.
  • To manage and work within the agreed budget for work in the region.

Person Specification

You will have a minimum of 3 years NHS experience in a senior position and be able to communicate well at all levels.

A “self-starter”, able to work on their own. The Fellowship Support Officer will have skills to:

  • Prioritise workload.
  • Work flexibly in the allocation of time as required by the needs of the charity.
  • Relate diplomatically with members and external contacts.
  • Write reports.
  • Use IT, to include word processing and basic spreadsheets.
  • Empathise with the aims of the charity and the aspirations and needs of retired people.
  • Understand a budget and be able to plan activity to work within it.
  • Contribute to the Fellowship’s communications.
