Role

About Simon Community Scotland

Simon Community Scotland is the largest provider of homelessness services in Scotland.

Our vision is for everyone to have a safe place to live with access to the support they need. Every day we help make positive things happen for people facing extremely difficult circumstances.

Everything we do is about and for people: the people we support, our staff, our partners and everyone affected by homelessness.

Our values are built into every area of activity and tell the story of how people remain at the heart of the Simon Community.

Job Summary

The Simon Community is Scotland's leading homeless charity. We are creative and innovative. We get things done with care and compassion that make a difference to our community, being true to our values. We are a community of staff, volunteers and the people that we support.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about changing expectations and experiences of people we support, many of whom have experienced significant trauma, exclusion and stigma. They often engage in risk taking behaviours that put their physical and mental health, and their lives at risk. Despite the challenges they face they have incredible resilience, survival skills and a wicked sense of humour. They know what a good, and not so good service looks like.

Job Purpose

Rough Sleeping & Vulnerable People (RSVP) - 1 Service, 3 Teams

Our award-winning, multi-agency Access HUB is a place where anyone affected by or at risk of homelessness can drop-in to get support with accommodation, benefits, health, finances, legal advice, access to the digital world and much more. Working in partnership with a range of providers, the Access HUB makes it much easier for people to get the support they need. Delivered in a psychologically informed environment, our team – which includes volunteers from our community – provides support 7 days a week.

Working in pairs and supported by a team of volunteers, our Street Outreach Team provides practical and emotional support to people who are sleeping rough in Glasgow or who are at risk of sleeping rough. We support them to present for accommodation, engage with health and addiction services as well as other homeless services. The team will establish and maintain effective professional relationships with a range of external partners to ensure support to service users is co-ordinated and minimises the number of nights an individual sleeps rough. This service primarily engages with people in Glasgow City Centre, however, we reach a growing number of people in the South and West of the City. We are also supported by our volunteer led StreetCycles Service to engage with and support these individuals.

The Intensive Outreach Support Service (formerly Complex Needs) enables a named Outreach Key Worker to provide more intense ongoing support to people sleeping rough or those in accommodation services where they do not receive support. The team works closely with the other RSVP services and external agencies to ensure support needs are identified and met. These can include physical health, mental health, addictions and criminal justice.

Our RSVP team is home to a range of specialist skills, including harm reduction and OISC regulated advice and support for people who are subject to immigration control.

The 3 teams within RSVP work closely together to provide joined-up, cohesive support for the Individuals we support. These roles require the flexibility to work across all RSVP services if necessary and availability to work shifts 7 days per week, 365 days per year.

Access HUB - Monday to Friday, 9-5pm with weekend working on a rota basis

Street Outreach Team - 12hr shifts with 7am, 8am and 11am start times, 365 days

Intensive Outreach Support Service - Monday to Friday 9-5pm with weekend working on a rota basis.

These roles also require a level of visibility, promotion of Simon Community Scotland and interaction with members of the public.
