Job Summary
Simon Community Scotland, in Partnership with Fast Forward, is keen to explore the hidden harms of gambling, how this impacts the people we support and how far this hidden gambling addiction accelerates the potential of people becoming homeless.
We are keen to hear from people who have experience working within a homeless context and can support our learning in assisting us to do a deep dive into the issues gambling harm has on people we support.
Can you support us in accelerating learning, responses, partnerships and outcomes for people who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness and who have a hidden or evident gambling harm issue?

Support our teams by developing digital resources to recognise gambling harm, support and signpost to tailored and specific treatments.
Connect with existing networks and organisations in the gambling harms space through Fast Forwards Network Hub and create opportunities for both homeless/housing and gambling networks to come together.
Deliver quarterly awareness-raising events at Hubs in Glasgow and Edinburgh. SCS will look to create a regular presence and partnership with Fast Forward embedded within homeless services.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Harm Reduction Practitioner role supports the Service Coordinator and wider team in designing and delivering harm reduction focused group work sessions as part of the brand new ‘We See You’ Project. ‘We See You’ is a low threshold, inclusive and trauma-informed service for people who are still using drugs in Glasgow City Centre. The service delivers psychosocial group work, harm reduction interventions and pathways into treatment for people who use drugs and who are experiencing homelessness.
We See You offers low threshold entry into education, employment and training opportunities and works in partnership to provide holistic support within an environment of safety, inclusion and belonging. Modelling the harm reduction philosophy of ‘meeting people where they are at’, we design person centred interventions that respond to immediate need and offer people a place to come which will build on a person’s strengths, skills and ambitions to live well.
We deliver harm reduction interventions including access to essential safe equipment, overdose awareness and prevention, blood borne virus training, wound care training and life saving responses to overdose. The project offers a staged approach, building in peer opportunities and volunteering providing people an opportunity to build skills and experience, confidence and self worth.
We are looking for people who are passionate about harm reduction and making a difference in the lives of people who use drugs to join this team in its infancy. We are looking for creative and ambitious team players who are able to think outside the box and bring new ideas and ways of working to ensure that people who are accessing the service are linked into meaningful activities and opportunities and feel cared for, included and part of something. An understanding of some of the challenges people who use drugs face is essential, as is working with people with hope
and understanding. We are really excited about what this project could achieve and are looking for people to help us create something which is innovative and responsive in Glasgow City Centre.
Working in partnership is key to the success of this project and this role will require the team to work alongside health and other third sector organisations, so some experience of this would be welcomed. We welcome people with their own experiences of trying to navigate the system and who have their own experience of using substances or experiencing homelessness.
We are looking for people who are keen to develop and learn alongside us and the people we support, while also understanding the real challenges people face and being able to work within an environment where people are at different stages of their journey, celebrating ‘any positive change’.
‘We See You’ will be delivered out of hours, so staff will be expected to work between 4pm-9pm during the weekend, and 11-5 at weekends over 7 days, on a rota basis. Part time staff can expect to work 2/3 evenings and 1 weekend shift per week.

People are at the heart of everything we do. This means you will need to have the qualities to lead a team in supporting people to see their own amazing potential. You’ll need to have energy, compassion, empathy and be trauma skilled in your approach. Making a good cuppa helps too!
We welcome people with a wide range of skills and experiences to our team, particularly if your personal experience provides invaluable additional insight for your colleagues and a credible, empathetic link for the people we support.
To make a difference we need to work flexibly, with everyday leadership, humour and a ‘can do’ spirit. We want to make it easy, make it right, and make it happen – not only for the people we support, but also for each other.

As an employer, leadership and learning is how we link together with our teams, supporting each other to build strong supportive teams, using reflective and evidence based practices to learn from each other and grow together. This starts with our 5-day induction programme.
As a Service Lead you will nurture and foster supportive relationships with your team, colleagues and our multi agency partners. You must be committed to the supervision and practice development of your team and model a self directed approach to all you do.
Does this still sound like you? Then we want to hear from you today!

About the Role
We are looking for women to support women and who are willing to go that extra mile to challenge and advocate through society’s barriers that women experiencing homelessness face today. The women who enter our housing support services, often have multiple experiences of violence and abuse, including childhood abuse, domestic and sexual violence and exploitation through prostitution including coercion and control. They may have physical and mental health problems, criminal records and experience of street homelessness, any combination of which can lead to learned survival and coping strategies that can often be a barrier to accessing and benefiting from support services.
Our aim is to provide a safe place that accepts women just as they are, whilst supporting them to identify goals and find ways of moving forward and away from the harm they live with. You will report to the Leaders of the Women Service’s who work across our 4 dedicated Women’s Services which are led by our Head of Women’s Services. You will work in harmony with all other teams within the women’s service as well as the wider organisational teams, and will look outward to develop your practice area in partnership with all stakeholders.
About You
We welcome people with a wide range of skills and experiences to our team – including those who have lived through homelessness or addiction. To make a difference we need to work flexibly, with everyday-leadership, harnessing self motivation, critical thinking and being completely solutions focussed, with maybe a little dash of humour thrown in! We want to make it easy, make it right, and make it happen – not only for the people we support, but also for each other.
We have full and part-time vacancies for support workers based in our women’s housing support services in Glasgow. We also have opportunities to join our relief staff team. Relief hours are based on service delivery needs as well as your own personal commitments and they offer an exciting chance to build your experience and skills in social care. These roles are ideally suited for those not in full time work and who can be flexible with their time and availability.
We also welcome applicants looking to work on a permanent night shift basis.
