Role

The Directorate of External Relations aims to enhance the reputation of the University through effective engagement with a wide range of stakeholders, external and internal, and thus support income generation. It includes admissions and applicant experience, enquirer and applicant communications, global engagement and recruitment, marketing, corporate communications, public affairs, advancement (incorporating alumni relations, development and major events), and web and creative services.

We are recruiting for an exceptional individual to join us as a Development Officer – Trusts and Foundations. The successful candidate will capture the inspiring work of the University of Dundee community and communicate its impact to secure funding from charitable trusts and foundations. Your prime responsibility will be to raise funds for priority University initiatives to meet an agreed fundraising target and record activity according to established systems and procedures. This is a permanent appointment.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced fundraising professional to join a dynamic team at a pivotal point in the University of Dundee’s philanthropic journey. With ambitious plans for a major University-wide fundraising campaign, the successful candidate will have the chance to build on their skills in a nurturing, creative and stimulating environment.

Your priorities will include:

  • Raising funds for University initiatives from institutional funders, charitable trusts and foundations and other friends of the University through various methods, including faceto-face meetings, written proposals and other activities.
  • Developing written proposals, including financial summaries and planning approaches to potential supporters to secure donations for campaigns
  • Carrying out research to identify potential funders and to inform planned approaches to these funders
  • Working to agreed activity and financial targets, recording activity and producing documentation according to established office-wide systems and procedures, including Raisers Edge.
  • Creating, developing, and delivering stewardship strategies to ensure donors are thanked appropriately and have a planned future programme of engagement

Who we’re looking for:

  • Demonstrable track record in fundraising
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including evidence of writing for different audiences and formats
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks and to prioritise competing deadlines
  • Ability to comprehend, digest and express complicated information
  • Excellent interpersonal skills relating to both internal and external contacts
