Role
At Inverness, Badenoch & Strathspey CAB, we are a friendly team of over 70 employees and volunteers delivering a busy advice service to the public. We strive to deliver good quality advice that meets the needs of our clients in a non-judgemental and confidential manner. We aim for individuals not to suffer through not knowing or understanding their rights and responsibilities or not being aware of the services available to them. We provide advice to our clients so that they can make informed decisions and feel empowered to improve their personal circumstances.
We are looking for an Employment & Equality Adviser to help deliver our Highlands Equality Action Project. This project provides a specialist employment and equality rights service for the Highland community that supports and empowers individuals who suffer unlawful discrimination and related employment rights breaches. We are looking for an individual who has experience of providing advice, ideally in issues relating to employment or discrimination, but we are also interested to hear from people who can evidence similar transferrable skills.
You will have an interest in:
- Employment legislation and how this applies to individuals in the workplace.
- You will value the concept of equality and diversity and have an understanding of discrimination issues.
- You will have good communication skills, both verbal and written, and have experience of dealing with a diverse range of people.
- You will be empathetic to the needs of clients and at the same time empower them to resolve their situation.
- You will have an organised and structured approach to work and able to manage your workload effectively.
- You will be a team player, willing to share your knowledge with volunteers and staff and support other teams in the bureau to ensure an effective delivery of our service.

Income Maximisation Worker for Families

An experienced adviser is required to improve the financial circumstances of the families supported by Hawthorn Children and Family Centre and Midlothian’s Family Wellbeing Service to improve the outcomes for the children.
The project will work with and receive referrals from Hawthorn Children and Family Centre and the Family Wellbeing Service team members. The worker will link with mental health projects, family support and Penicuik CAB’s specialist debt worker to develop a wraparound service to increase household income and improve the quality of life for the family.
Working closely with other project workers the post holder will provide awareness raising sessions with the Hawthorn Centre staff, Family Wellbeing team members and any other agencies, as appropriate.
Based at the Penicuik CAB, Hawthorn Children and Family Centre and working at any centres deemed appropriate, the worker will provide help and assistance with checking benefit entitlement, completing benefit applications and challenging benefit decisions. The work will also include income maximisation, budgeting advice, utilities and some assistance with debt issues (including housing debt).
A working knowledge and understanding of welfare benefits and good interpersonal skills are essential. The post holder will be responsible for developing and delivering the service to meet the needs of the families.

The Deputy Manager has day to day operational responsibility for the delivery of the bureau’s advice service. The post holder will ensure a quality service is delivered in line with the Scottish National Standards and the Bureau’s Citizens Advice membership and will provide to the Chief Executive Officer all necessary reporting, data and case study information required.
The Deputy Manager is responsible for maintaining a disciplined, professional office working environment and ensures its compliance with the Bureau’s health, safety and other working policies, practices and procedures.
Using AdviserNet and the information systems, provide 2nd tier consultancy support to staff and volunteers on complex cases to include type 3 cases i.e. representation at tribunals. The post holder will also work as part of the Senior Management Team and will deputise for the Chief Executive Officer when required to do so.
The post requires a Basic Disclosure certificate.

As a leading advice provider in the Glasgow area, we’re supported by a dedicated Board of Directors (Trustees) who bring strategic vision, professional insight and community knowledge. We are now seeking new members to join our Board and help shape the future direction of our organisation.
The Role
As a Board Member, you will play an active part in ensuring that Drumchapel CAB remains effective, accountable and sustainable.
You’ll work collectively with fellow Trustees and the Bureau Manager to:
- Provide strategic leadership and sound governance
- Support the management team to deliver high-quality advice services
- Contribute to decision-making that influences the Bureau’s future direction
- Promote our work within the community and wider networks
Board meetings are held every two months, typically lasting around two hours. Trustees may also choose to join sub-committees or short-term working groups.
