  • Perth
  • Closing 6th November 2023

Role

RSGS (the Royal Scottish Geographical Society) is one of Scotland’s most dynamic small charities. We are engaged in an exciting and wide variety of public events, education, science communication and active policy advice. We work with a broad range of public, private, academic and voluntary sector organisations to enhance people’s understanding of the world.

Applications are invited from hard-working, enthusiastic and ambitious individuals seeking a challenging, fast-paced and multi-faceted position with considerable scope for professional and personal development, in an exciting and varied role.

Because of growing success and workload, we are seeking to appoint a Deputy Chief Executive, based at the RSGS HQ in Perth, to support the Chief Executive, particularly in fundraising and business development. The person appointed will focus initially on helping us to significantly increase uptake of our major Climate Solutions training programme, and then increasingly transition into the many broader aspects of RSGS’s work at a senior level.

We need a highly-motivated individual who can credibly represent RSGS with integrity, with everyone from local volunteers to global leaders. Someone who can help increase the profile of RSGS amongst core audiences, maximise RSGS income, and work with colleagues to ensure that Climate Solutions training courses and other RSGS policy and public-focused activities are smoothly delivered and have maximum impact.

You should possess a high level of initiative and organisational aptitude, superb negotiation and marketing skills, excellent communication skills and computer literacy, a willingness to learn, an ability to deal calmly with the unexpected, a personable manner, and ideally a solid grounding in sustainability, an empathy for geography, and the drive and passion to change the world.

A team player, you should be good at developing networks and relationships, good at prioritising work and coordinating teams, and able to respond quickly and efficiently to new opportunities. Some experience of working for a charity would be helpful, as would a good sense of humour.
