We are looking for new Board Members to join our Board at the Community Brokerage Network.
Our Board Members are collectively responsible for the governance of the organisation, providing strategic advice and constructive challenge to the Operations Manager and their Leadership Team. All to ensure that we work to make a lasting difference to people across Ayrshire.
About Us
The Community Brokerage Network was formally established in 2012 and operates as a community interest company with an asset lock in place. Initially it operated in East Ayrshire but has in recent years expanded to also cover North and South Ayrshire. CBN provides community brokerage to individuals, some of whom will have an individual budget allocated from social work to plan, find and secure the right kind of support they need to have the best lives possible lives making use of both informal and formal support options and connecting people into community activities, groups, and facilities.
About the role
Board Members play a unique role in delivery of our mission. They are collectively responsible for the governance of the organisation. They set the strategic direction for the organisation, ensuring alignment to our values, and are responsible for setting organisational policy, defining targets, agreeing the financial plan, and evaluating performance.
We are currently looking for Board Members with expertise or a background in any of the below areas:
- Communications and Engagement
- Strategic HR and organisational change
- Fundraising
As a Board Member, you’ll be required to attend all Board meetings (four Board meetings and one or more Board calls per year), in addition to a Board Strategy Day.
As a CBN Board Member, you will:
- Act in CBN’s best interests, ensuring the charity complies with its governance responsibilities, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations, and ensure the effective management of resources and of risk.
- Provide support and constructive challenge to the Operations Manager to ensure the delivery of CBN’s mission and implementation of its strategic plan.
- Bring personal experience and professional expertise to the Board; contribute to key strategic debates within the organisation and to specific department and cross-team initiatives; and help to strengthen Board governance.
- Help ensure that CBN continues to maintain the highest safeguarding standards in line with legislation, statutory guidance and best practice, and organisational policy and procedure.
- Represent CBN at key functions, including fundraising and profile-raising events.
Terms of Appointment:
This is a voluntary position, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
Board Members are appointed for an initial term of 2 years, after which Board Members can be reappointed for two further terms of 3 years each, up to a maximum of 8 years.

North Glasgow Integration Network SCIO (NGIN) is currently seeking new Board Members. NGIN is governed by a voluntary Board of Trustees, who guide and oversee our organisation. Our board is made up of people from a variety of backgrounds and experiences, with an interest in supporting asylum seekers & refugees and all New Scots in Glasgow,
The main aim of NGIN is to support asylum seekers and refugees who are accommodated in North/North East Glasgow communities. Led by the needs and interests of people accessing the service, NGIN connects people with services that will support them and hosts and promotes tailored events and opportunities. The charity works with people on an individual and group basis to help them to feel safe, develop the confidence to integrate with the host community and to have an improved quality of life.
Our Board wishes to expand its skills base and welcomes individuals with relevant financial, community and business experience, aligned with a belief in social justice and financial inclusion. We are looking to attract individuals with skills and experience ranging from social media, human resources, community learning & development, finance/fundraising, marketing and, most importantly, an interest in the wellbeing of New Scots. Given our aims and commitment to diversity, we encourage applications from all genders, the BAME community and people with additional support needs.
The position of trustee is a voluntary position but travel expenses and other reasonable expenses accrued when carrying out the role will be paid.
Time Commitment
We ask board member candidates for a minimum commitment of attending 1 meeting every quarter, held online or in person, with email contact on matters arising between meetings. Alongside this, additional requests may be made for support with board activities such as recruitment of staff on an occasional basis.

The role of chair, alongside being a board member, is to chair board meetings and annual general meetings, provide line management support to the lead worker of NGIN, and work with other office bearers to ensure that the board, staff and volunteers at NGIN are all able to work effectively for the benefit of the people using NGIN services.

The treasurer would work closely with the lead worker to provide regular financial updates for the board, prepare annual accounts and budget forecasts and support the aims of the organisation through effective financial management of the funds received through grant awards and donations.
We are looking for an individual with an interest or experience in accounts and finances. We would also welcome skills in other areas relevant to the wider work of the board in steering the organisation such as social media, human resources, community learning & development, finance/fundraising or marketing. We are looking for candidates with a belief in social justice and financial inclusion and an interest in the wellbeing of New Scots. Elected by our members, our directors help to set the strategic direction of the organisation, review and monitor its work and activities, and support our staff in meeting its mission and vision. Board members play a key role in bringing their own experience from a variety of backgrounds and sectors to inform strategy and to act as ambassadors and facilitators for the organisation.
Apart from attending monthly meetings, directors provide oversight to the projects GCFN are engaged in, help organise and attend quarterly networking events that bring together our members under a changing theme, and sit on working groups that cover all aspects of our operations, from finance, HR and governance, to communications & membership and funding & opportunity development.
Board members are also invited to participate in the working groups of the Glasgow City Food Plan, of which we are a key stakeholder, as well as in any projects happening in the city that share our aims of working together to build a healthier, more sustainable food system for everyone. While the call is open to everyone with a passion for food and making a difference in your community, we particularly welcome applications from individuals with experience in HR, comms and funding/social enterprise development.
